While companies and advocates may mean well, using “thrive” misleads patients, invalidates their struggles, and fosters unfair bias. Patients deserve truth, not sugarcoated optimism. What It Means to Survive    •   🩺 Managing the physical toll of dialysis treatments    •   🛏 Struggling with constant fatigue and poor sleep quality    •   🕑 Adhering to strict dialysis schedules that dominate life    •   💉 Enduring painful, invasive procedures and side effects    •   💸 Navigating financial burdens of long-term care    •   🧠 Carrying the mental weight of uncertainty and anxiety Surviving is about resilience and enduring a battle just to maintain a baseline quality of life. It’s hard, exhausting, and relentless. Imagine being told you’ll thrive, only to find yourself exhausted, tied to a machine, and fighting to keep up with daily life. Words like “thrive” minimize the realities of dialysis and kidney disease, making patients feel alienated and unseen. It’s a biased, subjective view that benefits no one. Patients don’t need false inspiration. They need honesty, guidance, and support that reflects their lived experiences. They deserve advocacy that acknowledges their fight to survive instead of pushing a narrative that ignores the truth Stop using “thrive” to describe patients on dialysis.
