ImmersiveTouch's AR Surgical System Receives FDA Clearance ImmersiveTouch Inc., a digital surgery company based in Chicago, has announced that its augmented reality (AR) technology platform, ImmersiveAR, has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clinical use in the operating room. With this clearance, the company will begin commercializing the platform in the United States. ImmersiveAR builds on ImmersiveTouch’s suite of AI-powered virtual surgical planning products and services, which have already improved CMF surgeries by significantly reducing the pre-operative planning workflow. Surgeons can simulate surgical changes to bones and plan the final aesthetic result, tailoring procedures to the patient’s unique anatomy, which helps minimize errors and complications. This technology also provides hospitals with an opportunity to generate additional reimbursement from payors and lower healthcare costs. Dr. David Hirsch, Senior Vice President of Dental Medicine at Northwell Health, highlighted the benefits of this technology, noting that the detailed images of a patient’s anatomy help foresee complications and reduce both planning and surgical time, resulting in a safer patient experience with fewer complications. Jay Banerjee, CEO of ImmersiveTouch, added that ImmersiveAR brings a new approach to intraoperative 3D visualization, moving beyond traditional two-dimensional imaging technology to improve how surgeons plan and perform procedures. The ImmersiveAR platform allows surgeons to visualize and interact with 3D virtual surgical plans within the operating room environment, providing an integrated workflow from planning to intraoperative visualization. This helps surgeons double-check their planned movements and reduce the need for trial and error during surgery. The platform is designed for use in several surgical procedures and follows significant company momentum, including strategic partnerships and a growing presence in leading hospitals. 🎮 Activision Blizzard Hit With $23.4 Million Patent Infringement Verdict A jury has ruled against Activision Blizzard in a patent infringement lawsuit filed by tech incubator Acceleration Bay. The verdict, reached on May 3rd according to Law.com, requires Activision Blizzard to pay $23.4 million in damages. Acceleration Bay initiated the legal action in 2015, claiming Activision's multiplayer titles infringed on their patents related to networking and broadcasting technologies. The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, specifically cited World of Warcraft and two Call of Duty games. The jury awarded Acceleration Bay $18 million for copyright infringement related to World of Warcraft and $5.4 million for the Call of Duty titles. Jurors were tasked with determining whether Activision Blizzard's games infringed on Acceleration Bay's patents and, if so, the appropriate compensation. While Activision Blizzard has lost this case, it's important to note that this isn't the end of the story. The company has expressed its intention to appeal the verdict, stating they "believe there is a strong basis for appeal" and denying any use of the patented technologies. It's also worth mentioning that Acceleration Bay has a history of filing similar lawsuits against other major players in the tech and gaming industries, including EA, Take-Two, and Amazon Web Services.
