Swiss Re's $2.4 billion increase in loss reserves for Q3 offers executives greater security, but worsening trends in U.S. liability loss costs persist across the industry. Group CFO John Dacey informed analysts that Swiss Re has raised reserves for underwriting years 2020-2022. In 2023, they and other insurers concentrated on strengthening reserves from 2014-2019. Great article from Life Annuity Specialist on recent studies from our friends at PartnerRe Swiss Re and Munich Re on mortality slippage in accelerated underwriting programs. These reinsurers found "that the most common undetected conditions leading to inaccurate risk decisions in accelerated underwriting are tobacco use, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, blood pressure and weight."
