Please tell us why! Also: Will United Airlines of its own accord become accessible, or will you wait till you’re forced to do so through legislation, which you know can take decades!? I spent some time this weekend experimenting with Anthropic's newly released Claude 3.5 sonnet, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. To be honest, I've been considering giving up my Claude subscription in recent weeks, and I'm glad I didn't. Here are a few things I liked: ☑ EXCELLENT writing skills, probably the best out there for an LLM, based on my experience ☑ Finally, Claude has 'vision' capabilities (it can see and transcribe text even from low-quality images) ☑ Exceptional reasoning, skills, and what seems to be a very solid knowledge base ☑ It is lightning-fast, and its responses seem to show an excellent grasp of language nuances, along with a bit of personality and a sense of humour! ☑VERY good at processing complex multi-step prompts 'Mid' but with potential: Anthropic also introduced Artifacts, which lets you see what's being generated in a window beside your prompt. Unfortunately, it's still limited for a few things I was trying out, but I love the concept of a collaborative work environment, and it will get better and more user-friendly soon. There's so much talk about using AI to generate content, especially now that tools like ChatGPT make it look so easy. But is that coming at a cost to the reader experience? I'm a huge fan of (properly using) AI. It's been great at summarizing meetings. I use it sometimes to generate headline ideas or to generate a first draft of social media copy. I'm legitimately amazed at how fast this technology is developing. But as someone who has been "generating content" for newspapers, websites, blogs and social media since MySpace was the dominant social platform, I see far too many companies rushing to adopt AI for content generation without question. It seems so easy — because it is. Upload some reputable, trustworthy data sources (at least, please tell me you're doing this), click a couple buttons and you've got a story ready to go! Unfortunately, going this route ignores a lot of success factors. - Is it going to rank on Google? (No — the algorithm wants human experience and expertise that AI can't magically generate.) - Is it something that will add value for your customers? (People don't really want to read awkward AI copy, and will just bounce.) - Is it going to read well? (Unless you're also a robot ... no.) Instead, use AI to *assist* human writers. It's great at summarizing interviews, gathering key data points and helping you brainstorm. It can generate a first draft that gives you a structure to work with, if you're stuck. AI is a wonderful tool as an assistant, but it's not a long-term content strategy. While the technology changes over time, one thing doesn't — people want to trust that the article they're reading will help them out. Seeing how often people add "Reddit" on the end of their Google searches just confirms this. If you really want to stand out among your competitors and get long-lasting results, don't use AI as a content generator. Use it to help your human writers and editors do their job better.

After a couple weeks off, I'm back to work and on LinkedIn! And there was no better way to kick off my return to work than to have Flying Cat 's very *first* (in 4.5 years!) off-site. Here's what we did: ✨ Review and renew the team charter — what is everyone's real role in our new, smaller but mightier team? ✨ Vision setting. I've always been setting the vision for the company and now I want the whole team to share the same vision and for us to set it together. I wanted the team to decide what kind of company they want to work for and for us to build it together. ✨ Values setting. Since the beginning I set the company's values to align with my own. Again, I wanted to get the whole team to reset the values with what aligns with them and how they want to work. A few of mine stayed, and we got some new ones. ✨ Goal setting. What do we need to achieve by the end of the year to reach our vision for the type of company we want to build together? ✨ Needs and expectations. What do we need from each other to be able to do our jobs and achieve this goal? ✨ And of course, fun and bonding. We got drinks, played games, had food and got to know each other. I love a remote business because I live a remote lifestyle but there is nothing like getting together in person. This was such a good experience and I can't wait to do it again, and so excited to have the team's buy-in for the direction we're going. We're fired up and ready to build something amazing for us and our clients. And our purpose? Provide a marketing service that makes a genuine impact on businesses and their people. Very very happy for what's to come.

Doing my best to serve the traveling public! https://lnkd.in/gvgDnM-A Why Larger Planes Can Handle More Turbulence, According to Aviation Experts Jul 03, 2024 By Soo Kim  Life & Trends Reporter Many might feel scared to fly following recent incidents of severe turbulence, including on an Air Europa flight Monday that injured 30 people, but experts have assured Newsweek larger planes can handle the extreme conditions. The Spanish airline incident unfolded on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from Madrid to Montevideo, Uruguay. The incident came not long after other reports of severe turbulence, such as on a Singapore Airlines flight that killed a passenger in May and a Qatar Airways flight that left 12 people injured in the same month. As terrifying as the moments of turbulence are, larger aircraft—such as the ones involved in the recent incidents—are able to withstand more turbulence. Former airline pilot Lenny Lee told Newsweek: "A larger, heavier airplane that's flying in a steady state will be harder for turbulence to shake, rattle and roll than a smaller, lighter airplane." It's no surprise that many may get nervous about air travel, as clear-air turbulence (CAT) was found to have increased over the past 40 years, according to a 2023 study in Geophysical Research Letters. The study found that the increases were largest over the U.S. & North Atlantic, both of which are busy flight regions. According to the study, "severe-or-greater CAT increased the most, becoming 55% more frequent in 2020 than 1979" and CAT is "projected to intensify in response to future climate change." Lee explained: "It mostly has to do with mass. Think of it this way—a leaf is going to get blown around a lot more by the wind than a rock." The former airline pilot noted that widebody, jumbo & superjumbo jets—such as the Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft—have "considerably more mass" than smaller jets like the Boeing 737, "which in turn has more mass than smaller regional turboprop like the Dash 8 Q400."Regional turboprop planes also fly at lower altitudes, typically 25,000 feet or below, Lee said, "where they are more likely to encounter turbulence. Their big brother & big sister jets can fly up to 40,000' and sometimes even higher giving them more room to find smoother air." While heavier, larger planes handle "light turbulence" better than smaller planes, "it does not mean they encounter less turbulence," Dan Bubb, a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas who is an aviation historian & former airline pilot, told Newsweek. The professor said that "like smaller planes, they also encounter severe turbulence," noting different incidents throughout history where larger planes that have been impacted by heavy turbulence, including some resulting in fatalities.

This is important for #communications pros and our subject matter experts to remember. An interview is a conversation not a rote question asked, prepared answer given. Using talking points rather than scripted answers is more effective for a SME and makes for a better interview. Unfortunately that path isn’t taken as often as it should be.

The question itself was innocent enough. "Is there any sort of work being done with the airlines in order to get flights actually on time or not delayed as much? Just curious if there's any work happening..." That's what a reporter asked Deborah Flint, President and Chief Executive Officer at Greater Toronto Airports Authority in July 2023. The CEO's reply would have been perfectly adequate... ... if it hadn't been for the cheeky camera operator who decided to focus on the flight information display system behind her: the information board showed almost twice as many flights listed as "delayed" or "cancelled" as those shown as on time. When what you say clearly isn't consistent with what you do, it's often painfully obvious to your customers. At that point, only one question remains: Are you truly oblivious to how things at your company work... ... or are you just desperately trying to believe it isn't so? #marketing #brand #consistency #consumer #trust P.S. I have long preached the benefit of having political communicators on corporate teams. If your in-house comms team or external agency is lacking in political communications veterans, now is the time to add them to the roster. I have many excellent, seasoned communicators in my network if you are looking to add talent. This incoming administration will be fundamentally different than any before it. As a lame duck President with GOP control of both the Senate and House, a conservative SCOTUS, and the hiring of DC outsiders to cabinet roles, the federal Gov't will look and function differently than to what most corporations have built their structure and strategy. From tax and trade to employment, environment, and immigration, corporations are going to need to pivot in a transformed regulatory environment. As they pivot, they will need to communicate internally and externally on the whys and hows to customers, partners, employees and regulators. Whether Capitol Hill, White House, state house, or campaign veterans, these folks know how to interpret, navigate and respond to the machinations of government. Any organization without one of these on their team, will face an uphill battle in what is going to be a wild, fast-paced, and sometimes-illogical overhaul of the government. Changes in sustainability-speak at #climateweeknyc worth noting: 1) "Business needs to lead the way on #climate" has lost much of its usual cachet as a 'we got this' phrase. Instead, there is perhaps a recognition that the notion is nice but doesn't quite comport with the reality of policy and enterprise's relationship. 2) The "right policy enabling environment" hasn't been the footnote that it tends to be relegated to at the likes of a Climate Week – it's increasingly been discussed as the key element that the success of sustainable business and investment hinges on, like in the Sustainable Investment Forum's conversation with #sustainableinvesting heavyweights Carine Smith Ihenacho, The Very Rev Kirsten Snow Spalding, Bertrand Millot, Pedro Guazo and Peter Cashion, CFA. 3) All that said, there remains a no-go zone in acknowledging that public and government affairs are often doing hard work down the hall from their sustainability colleagues to thwart the type of #climatepolicy we need to bend the emissions curve. Audience Q&A on the topic has afforded some solid awkward silence, which maybe in future will be filled with some of those folks joining the panels?
