Design and Analysis of a Power Distribution System for a manufacturing facility
- Modeled two variants of a design case.
- Performed Load Calculations, Selection of components depending upon the load calculated, harmonic analysis, cost analysis and designed the layouts accordingly.
- Simulated one Line Diagram, performed load flow analysis, shortcircuit analysis of the two variants by using ETAP. Design and layout are in compliance with NEC standards -
Power System Stability and Control
Power System Stability and Control with Phasor Measurement Unit and NERC Reliability Role of Frequency Response and role of inertia in frequency response for three American and Quebec Interconnections. Analyzing the effect of frequency response with primary frequency control, renewable energy penetration, generation control and with energy storage devices. Simulation is done in Power World tool and PSSE. Spring 2014

Design of Renewable Distributed Generation (DG) and Storage for University at Buffalo
In this project, we are responsible for designing DG for university at buffalo with 30 MW demand. This includes choosing right technology for generation and storage considering resource availability and budget, designing distribution network which includes choosing right transformer ratings and cables, analyzing load curve for future expansion and designing protection for the system. Project is done in compliance with IEEE 1547 standards.

Solar Energy- Major Alternative Energy Source
Statistics and research proving that solar energy is going to be major alternative energy source in the future. Studied and presented CSP and PV technologies of harnessing solar energy and the challenges involved. Researched the role of policies to overcome the challenges and future prospects of solar energy as a part of academic course.

Transient Stability Analysis of Power System
The project is study of transient stability of 5 bus power system for a 3-phase fault. This involves modeling of exciter and governor control system for the generators which is simulated in MATLAB using SIMPOWER SYSTEMS tool. The stability of the system is analyzed by placing fault at different locations in the power system. Thus by adding capacitor through power electronics improves the stability of the system is seen.

CUK converter based solar inverter.
Objective was to maintain constant voltage across the inverter where source of power to inverter is from photovoltaic cells. Voltage from the photovoltaic cells will be fluctuating throughout the day. CUK converter is connected across PV cells to maintain constant voltage. Feedback from the output terminals will be taken to measure change in voltage which in turn changes control signal of CUK converter to maintain constant output voltage. This constant output is connected to full bridge inverter to get AC output for domestic purpose.

Autonomous forklift
Forklift used to lift and transport materials. Objective was to make a forklift which works without driver. Various sensor placed at different parts of forklift made it driver less. We need to code it according to our work and work arena.
-
Automatic frequency control using slip ring Induction Machine
Objective was to get desired output frequency and to maintain it constant. Here, Slip ring Induction machine is used to maintain desired frequency by controlling slip of slip ring induction machine. Feedback from output frequency is taken and compared with the desired frequency. To compensate change in frequency, slip is changed by rotating shaft of induction machine in corresponding direction and speed.
