“I had the privilege of working with Kaiti as her direct report at Workrise. She was an incredibly supportive manager, always focused on bringing clarity and direction to the team. From curating a vision for the next quarter to aligning roadmaps across teams, she provided much-needed leadership during critical moments. She built a strong foundation for product decision-making and continually sought ways to improve how we worked. Kaiti’s extensive background in product management enabled her to be a versatile key player amongst product, designers, engineers, marketing, and others. Accompanied by her personable and human demeanor, she was a delight to anyone that had the chance to work with her. She played a huge part in shaping my growth in product and I am forever grateful. Any organization would be lucky and glad to have her on their team!”

You’re trying to create a product roadmap. What tools should you use?
You might advocate that instead of the roadmap dictating when features or products will launch, orient the roadmap around what the desired outcome is or what you hope to learn and how that will better inform business decisions moving forward. This should help highlight WHY you’re doing what you’re doing to Executive Leadership instead of having them wondering “But why are we launching that? How does it improve the bottom line or our business?”
-
How can you improve team communication to meet deadlines?
Missing deadlines is almost inevitably going to happen so I like to communicate risks and mitigation plans at the beginning so that if a deadline is missed, hopefully there’s evidence that the team considered the contributing factors and did what they could to mitigate as much as possible. It builds trust with the team as they understand why and how plans might change mid-project and builds trust with leadership showing them that you’re proactively looking for ways to stay efficient and responsible with time.

How do you adapt your product strategy in uncertain environments?
Uncertainty almost always means being adaptable to changing conditions whether those conditions are internal or external factors. To avoid making the team feel a sense of whiplash should execution need to change with the conditions, talk with the team about thresholds for tolerable risk. Something to the affect of, “We’re going to do A because of 1 & 2. If 3 or 4 happen, we will consider options B or C depending on these following factors…” This kind of conversation gets the team involved as a part of solutioning and makes them feel trusted and bought into the plan understanding ahead of time how their roadmap might shift and why it might shift before it does.
