The Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP) began its operations in 1981, located 18 miles off Port Fourchon, Louisiana. LOOP is situated in waters 115 feet deep. Its operations initially served as a crude oil import facility. Over time, in response to changes in the energy landscape, LOOP began importing oil and subsequently exporting it. Since its inception, LOOP has received over 12 billion barrels of foreign and domestically produced crude oil. LOOP stands as the largest point of entry for deep-water crude oil imported into the US today. It remains the primary recipient of both imported and domestic crude oil. LOOP is a joint venture between Marathon Pipeline LLC, Shell Oil Company, and Valero Terminaling and Distribution Company. Additionally, LOOP is the first and only deep-water crude oil port in the U.S. _______________________________

Distressing irony. "LNG Carrier Completes Arctic Voyage to China in 18 Days, Four More En Route" 🛢️According to the Maritime industry publication gCapitan…a ship loaded with Liquified Natural Gas departed from Northwestern Siberia and arrived in in Xiuyu China in around 3 weeks by traveling across the Arctic. "The vessel managed to complete most of the route unassisted but did need the nuclear icebreaker Sibir to escort it through a little bit of thicker ice.” 🚢 Shortly thereafter, five more LNG filled ships departed on the same route. Traveling this route takes 18 days as compared to six weeks via the Cape of Good Hope route. In addition to LNG, Russia “is expected to send dozens of shipments of crude oil via the Arctic.” Three new vessels, each carrying 800,000 barrels of crude oil were just granted permits to travel the route. This route is enabled by climate change and melting glaciers and ice in the Arctic. 🔂 This is classic example of a reinforcing feedback loop….more growth > more fossil fuel > more climate warming > Arctic melting > less ice = less reflectivity (albedo effect) > more ocean warming > less ice > more fossil fuel via the Arctic route…. Same rules = more split screen detached realities = more profits for fossil fuel extractors, while, at the same time > $6b damages from hurricane Beryl (as but only one illustration).
