You're developing a mobile app feature. How do you convince stakeholders of the necessary security level?
I will focus on how I would convince stakeholders of anything, because as with most negotiations, it's not so much the validity of your argument that matters, it's the credibility of the person making the argument. I would start by talking to peers or people one level below the stakeholders. I would understand concerns and thoughts about security, and we would arrive at a best path forward for the feature. I would also speak with stakeholders individually to understand their view on security, in particular around cost and investment to make security robust. I would create a proposal, then shop that around to everyone I've already talked to. I'd then create a final 'alignment' meeting to get heads nodding around ideas already agreed to.

Your client is disregarding usability test results. How can you convince them to consider objective data?
If this is client work, I can only advise them to watch the test for themselves and consider that usability defects will impact each user while they exist - essentially creating a drag on all the effort and money they spend on converting leads into users of the product. I would expect to see higher retention with improved usability - this has a bottom line impact and that's the angle I would take.
