A reminder for you that to claim a tax deduction for personal super contributions SMSF members must complete a Notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions. Once received, a fund trustee must send a written acknowledgment, confirming they have received a valid notice of intent to claim a deduction. The ATO emphasised that members must receive the acknowledgment from their fund before they can claim the deduction on their tax return. #supercontributions #smsf #accountants #advisors #virtualcfoservices

This sentiment resurfaced recently in an AFR article, highlighting accountants' ongoing image problem. But guess what? This isn’t a new conversation. 🤔 Let’s be real—no job is going to sound amazing when we're all prioritising health, wellbeing, and that work-life balance dream. 🌿 When you look deeper, most professions could get a bad rap simply because, well, they’re not a vacation! For decades, articles have repeated the same rhetoric, from the "bean-counter" label of the 90s to the continuous struggle for talent due to perceived dullness. This narrative keeps getting recycled over and over. 🙄 What people often forget is how much the profession has evolved. CPA Membership Fees - up 3.5% again CPAs would have started receiving their membership renewal notices today - and will note that fees have increased again - by 3.5% on last year. While this is not a significant annual increase in isolation, it builds on progressive increases over the past years. This is of particular concern to members in the SA Public Service, who have only seen their pay increase by 1.5% annually over the past few years. At a time of cost of living pressures for members - this is an unnecessary increase we don't need. Feedback from members on surveys and other avenues have a consistent theme - that fees are too high and should be reduced. The local SA Divisional Council (of which I am a member) has also raised the level of fees as an issue repeatedly. CPA Australia doesn't seem to listen - and simply keeps increasing the fees rather than looking at how it can be more efficient. If you are a member and are unhappy with the fee increase and the absolute level of your fees - I suggest you email or LinkedIn message our Divisional Council President, the CPA CEO and the members of the CPA Australia Board. Having the right number of experienced finance professionals within the finance function department can often be a challenge for foreign owned Australian subsidiaries and private companies. Issues can be triggered in various instances - when a staff member leaves with minimal time notice and appropriate transition planning cannot be undertaken or when an organisation elects to internally promote a professional to a leadership role / transitions to another department. It can be useful for Australian companies, still in growth / development phase, to maintain some flexibility and adopt a hybrid method, specifically entailing (a) hiring finance professionals whilst also (b) contracting an external organisation for complex compliance requirements or sensitive operation requirements.
