By mid-2023, over 142 million people—more than 65% of the country's population—had registered for Pix, according to the Central Bank of Brazil.

Yesterday, Visa announced its Q2FY24 earnings, once again topping Wall Street’s estimates. The strong quarter comes amid enormous opportunity in the global money movement space, which represents a $55T opportunity to digitize and transform B2B, B2C, P2P and G2C payment flows. As our CEO shared during the earnings call, this quarter, new flows revenue growth improved to 14% year over year on a constant dollar basis, with Visa Direct overall transactions growing 31% for the quarter to 2.3 billion. I am proud to help lead the teams responsible for bringing Visa’s suite of money movement solutions to our clients, helping them move money seamlessly across card, account and wallet endpoints. A big piece of that vision involves expanding the number of endpoints reached through the Visa Direct network, but also expanding the range of money movement use cases it supports, as well as expansion to new geographies and enablers. It took me years to realize: Customers will love you fanatically when you turn challenges into opportunities. Today, at George UX, I had the pleasure of attending a session where César Wedemann, Product Director & General Manager, and Ellen Kiss, Design Director at Nubank, shared how they bring their company values to life. Here are 3 ways Nubank embodies its values: 1. Nudog Initiative 🐶: ↳ Nubank noticed many customers requesting replacement cards because their dogs were chewing them up! Instead of just sending new cards, they launched “Nudog,” providing dog-friendly chew toys resembling their cards. This creative solution turned a common issue into a delightful customer experience. 2. Street Mode (Modo Rua) 🏙️: ↳ Recognizing that security needs vary by location, Nubank introduced “Street Mode” in their app. It offers full access in trusted areas and restricts certain features in less secure locations. This adaptive approach smartly balances security and convenience, keeping users protected without hindering usability. 3. Unified Accounts 💰: ↳ Breaking away from traditional banking norms, Nubank unified checking and savings accounts. This innovation simplified financial management for users, providing a seamless experience. Starting in Brazil and expanding to Mexico and Colombia, this move redefined banking by enhancing transparency and trust. Values embedded in product design directly impact user experience. I wholeheartedly agree with this approach to product development. Turning challenges into opportunities and embedding company values into product design is essential for creating meaningful customer experiences. I've been a great believer that instant payments, like our PIX in Brazil, is a path to democratize access to the financial system and boost country's economies. Now we have proper research and numbers to express it 🙂. According to ACI's recent Economic Impact and Financial Inclusion report, in 2023, instant payments boosted global GDPs by $164 billion. By 2028, ACI estimates millions of citizens will have access to banking technology for the first time, not only boosting each country's economic output but providing substantial opportunities for financial services to reach currently unbanked or underbanked consumers.
