Continuing my series of MFR (Monday Frustrations): Aiden - Aditi Consulting virtual recruiter Have you ever dealt with AI or virtual recruiters during your job search? If not, consider yourself lucky. My recent encounter with one was nothing short of frustrating. Here’s how it works: you apply online for a job, and shortly after, you receive a call from a virtual recruiter, essentially an AI-powered assistant, asking follow-up questions. Sounds efficient, right? Not quite. The problem? You're not interacting with a human. These "interviews" are entirely one-sided. The virtual assistant expects you to respond in a linear, predefined manner, completely missing the essence of a real conversation. For instance, during this particular call, I missed what position the virtual recruiter was referring to, as it mentioned it briefly before quickly jumping to the next question about my recent project experience. Naturally, I wanted to clarify by asking two questions: 1. What position is this call for? 2. Are you asking about a design project specifically, or my research work (since I’ve been involved in both)? How did "Aiden" respond? With a polite but utterly unhelpful, "I’m sorry, but I don’t have that information in my system. I’ve noted your question down." Then it moved on to the next question as if my concerns didn’t exist. This isn’t my first encounter with virtual recruiters, and the outcome has always been the same: frustration and confusion. Why are companies turning to these systems? Is my CV not enough to determine if I’m a potential candidate? Wouldn't a real conversation be more insightful and efficient? The job application process is challenging enough without adding the hurdle of impersonal, cookie-cutter AI interactions. These systems seem counterproductive, discouraging skilled candidates and diminishing the human connection in recruitment. If anything, they highlight just how broken hiring processes can be. It serves as a development roadmap, guaranteeing that all parties involved have an understanding of what needs to be produced and why. A PRD typically addresses the objectives, target market, use cases, features, limitations, and acceptance criteria of the product. The PRD would outline details such as user authentication procedures, essential functions like balance checks and transfers, design criteria, and compliance with financial rules, for example, if a business was introducing a new mobile banking app. Throughout the project, this alignment facilitates communication between product managers, developers, and designers. In product management, what are OKRs? In product management, objectives and key results (OKRs) serve as a framework for setting and monitoring goals. While Key Results are the quantifiable outcomes that track progress towards those objectives, Objectives represent what you intend to achieve. OKRs aid in maintaining the team's alignment and attention on the most important tasks. A product team could decide that their goal is to "Enhance user engagement in the mobile app." "Increase daily active users by 20%," "Reduce churn rate by 15%," and "Extend average session duration by 10 minutes" are a few examples of key outcomes. This approach facilitates monitoring progress and making necessary changes to the strategy. What Does Product Management Use Design Thinking for? Design thinking is an innovative problem-solving methodology that prioritizes user needs. The process consists of five steps: define, ideate, prototype, test, and empathize. The goal is to fully comprehend consumer wants, reframe issues, and develop creative solutions via an iterative testing and improvement process. For instance, a team applying design thinking might begin by conducting observations and interviews to gain an understanding of users when developing a new fitness software. After defining issues like a lack of motivation and coming up with ideas for fixes like personalized exercise regimens, they build prototypes of these features and test them on real users, allowing them to make adjustments to the app in response to feedback. Customer Lifetime Value (CLV): CLV is the total amount of money a company can anticipate earning from a client for the course of that client's relationship. The first is an ATS-friendly resume with bullet points. The second is a Workday resume without bullet points. The third is an actual design resume. I feel sad for international students. It is already a tough market for US citizens, and I can't even imagine searching for a job as a non-citizen. As an international student needing sponsorship, you typically apply for an OPT visa after graduation, which is good for 1-2 years, but you only have 90 days to find a job. Or you have to leave the US. Right now, finding a job in 90 days is hard. Really hard. Those students worked so hard for 4+ years with the vision of getting a job. I was in their shoes and could not imagine being sent home because I couldn't find a job. Companies; if you have the resources, I would encourage you to look into hiring International students (and sponsoring them).
