Onpoint Principal Health Data Analyst Katharine McGraves-Lloyd explains how Onpoint, in partnership with the Integrated Healthcare Association in California, created a set of adjustment factors that go beyond the typical focus on total cost of care, and instead map the interrelationship between certain patient characteristics – age, sex, health status, and health coverage – and primary care spending. This innovative approach allows payers to scale payments to primary care practices based on the estimated clinical complexity of their patient mix.
