This morning, I had the opportunity to join Bloomberg to discuss a topic that's top of mind for creators and brands everywhere: the potential impact of a TikTok ban. My quick thoughts: - Across the creator universe, it's monumental that creators wrap their arms around their communities and solidify a home base where they can reliably reach, engage and grow their audience and business. - Brands are not slowing down their investment in creators, they're seeing it as a channel play - not a platform play. - Meta will be the biggest winner. CMOs are putting their dollars behind the creators themselves that will drive content into Meta and other social platforms. I thought the bare minimum of community management was liking and commenting on a post. I guess I was wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ During my time unemployed, I’ve gone the content creator route. It’s been a natural progression for me, moving from my social media and influencer marketing background to having a platform/community of my own. I’ve been creating content about products I love and tagging the brands. While my collective following is quite small, many of my videos have over 100k views and 10k engagements. To be frank, my engagement rate is something I would honestly find impressive if I were on the brand side looking in. A surprising reality I’ve discovered on this content creator journey is how community management isn’t a priority for many brands, or how selective they are about what they engage with. I always believed that the least you can do for community engagement is like and comment on the content you’re tagged in. While I understand that mega-brands might not have the capacity to engage with all content, I’m surprised that some mid-size & smaller brands don’t engage more. If I’m purchasing products and tagging the brand, even if I’m "just a customer" showing some love, it would certainly taint my view of the brand if they didn’t at least like the post. One thing I always remind brands about when it comes to influencer partnerships: hiring an agency like mine means tapping into the network that I’ve built over the past decade.
