The Q4 2024 Vaco Talent Pulse Report reveals a slight decline in confidence across job security, financial outlook, and career advancement—an important signal for hiring managers to act fast and secure top talent. Key findings include: ▪ 41% of job seekers feel extremely confident in their job security, down from 45% last quarter, but still a 3% improvement year-over-year. ▪ 41% are confident in their ability to improve their financial situation, although this is a slight dip from 44% in Q3, it still represents a 4% increase compared to last year. ▪ Career advancement confidence has decreased, with just 44% of professionals confident about career growth, a 3% drop from the previous quarter. With fewer professionals feeling confident in their career trajectory, many will begin exploring new opportunities. As a hiring manager, it’s time to capitalize on this shift in the job market and secure the talent you need for your team. The Q3 Vaco Talent Pulse Report found that 44% of professionals feel extremely confident in their ability to improve their financial status, an 8% increase year over year. Despite the economic downturn, we're seeing positive signs—especially in finance and accounting—where hiring activity is picking up during a typically slow period, suggesting that brighter days are ahead.   As market demand is expected to rise, the supply of talented resources remains tight. Because of this, we are seeing companies willing to pay to retain top performers through counteroffers, while those professionals choosing to make career or contract moves are finding opportunities to advance and improve their financial situation. Is the playbook for designing an effective contingent workforce program outdated? I think so and excited for next week's ClubVMSA roundtable to share some of my thinking as to why. I'll be riding Kobie Wagener, MSOD, SHRM-CP's coattails throughout the conversation and trying to look smart by association. Kobie and I spent some time working on this over the weekend and we've got some interesting (and maybe controversial?) ideas to pose. One thing I'm particularly excited to talk through is how Program Managers can get better at leveraging their spend, understanding the most & least valuable types of spend (in terms of margin profile), and how to make sure they're giving their "best" spend to partners that can solve their biggest problems. I think this is an under-discussed issue in our industry right now and one that'll just become more pressing as more spend moves abroad towards SOW. For years, MSPs have been treating their MSP business as a loss leader** to help them get to higher margin payroll/EOR or staffing business. What happens to that model if there's less US staff aug spend and way more SOW spend? I think we're seeing that right now, and there are hundreds of mid-sized programs that can't actually incentivize their MSP to support them the way they need given how they spend their spend. ** Not necessarily a literal loss, but you get the gist.
