Are CMOs becoming CAOs? CAO = Chief Advertising Officer. Looking at the new #Gartner survey of CMOs, paid media spending has gradually increased and has overtaken the spending on #Martech. While the survey also highlights that IT is getting more involved with Martech stack, its also a welcome sign that the budget may get split between #IT and #Marketing thereby giving some leeway to the already depleted #CMO budget. My only worry which is also in the long term will affect marketers is, what is the reason for a steady decline in marketing budgets? If you are a #marketer, you have something more to worry about beyond the budget cuts. And that's #GenAI.

I really like the clever line, but a lot of people who know English can't sit down and bang out a novel. It takes practice, training, and long hours writing and rewriting. The point of that slide was, I suppose, to suggest that to get good/great results when using generative ai, you need to write clearly, use proper sentence structure, etc. All true, of course, but... ...I think people who came up through programming have a leg up on everyone—specifically those who built applications with OOP (object oriented programming) languages like Java, Ruby, and PHP. They have experience directly applicable to writing good prompts. Object oriented programming languages have you work with objects that have properties, actions, and methods. Having familiarity with that concept helps a lot when you're trying to write a complex prompt. Just like how objects in Java have attributes and behaviors, you can structure parts of a prompt in a way that makes sense and gets the AI to respond how you want. Being able to organize stuff like that makes it easier to figure out how to craft the perfect prompt. That's just my opinion though... having been a developer I might be a little biased 😉

As AI continues to empower all of us in our work, I for one like seeing where exactly marketers are feeling those boosts in confidence.
