Being able to recover massive datasets in Amazon S3 is essential, which is why @Commvault introduced Clumio Backtrack. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is at war and Andy Jassy has a new consigliere Matt Garman. Amazon.com Inc. has strategically positioned Matt Garman as the new CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), much like a wartime consigliere in the vein of the iconic film "The Godfather." Garman assumes command in a critical era for AWS, marked by intense competition for cloud and AI supremacy. This period follows significant shifts brought about by the pandemic, a new wave of developers, and rapid advancements in generative AI technology. AWS finds itself in the midst of a fierce battleground, not only maintaining its cloud infrastructure leadership but also vying for dominance in the burgeoning AI sector. The one other wildcard in favor of AWS with Garman (besides being a product czar) is that he's very partner friendly which will be a key part of keeping AWS ahead. Hey everyone! I had a great conversation this morning with Hitu Chawla, Global VP of Global GTM Strategy at Splunk on the Ecosystem Aces video podcast. 💡 Overcoming #interoperability challenges in hybrid and multi-clouds   A big shoutout to my DE-CIX colleague Dr. Christoph Dietzel for sharing his insights on the complexities cloud architects face when integrating disparate cloud environments. Many companies are dealing with isolated #cloudsolutions from different providers, leading to unexpected extra costs and interoperability headaches. Instead of reverting to a single-cloud policy, which can result in vendor lock-in and a single point of failure, he suggests a more robust #multicloud strategy.   The key takeaway? Direct #connectivity between clouds offers a secure, cost-efficient solution that enhances performance and reduces latency of data flows. Yesterday, Tuskira launched with a bang. With a proven founding team (Piyush Sharrma, om moolchandani, Vipul Parmar) and a well-backed investment round (Intel Capital, SYN Ventures, Sorenson Capital...) Tuskira is pursuing a big idea: "Preemptive Security" As an advisor and investor, I often come across innovative concepts, but only a few have the potential to redefine the way we approach cybersecurity. You can read the full story in the attached blog. https://lnkd.in/g-YkQ6xM For my friends in a hurry, TLDR below: Preemptive security has its roots in addressing the inadequacies of traditional Vulnerability Management (VM) and SecOps, both of which have become major time sinks for security teams while offering limited cyber-defense efficacy. In both areas, vast amounts of data are generated: assets, findings, security controls, configurations, and security events. Tuskira's preemptive security approach leverages GenAI to create a security mesh that can effectively contextualize exposure, cyber controls, and security alerts, addressing several key gaps in today's cybersecurity landscape: 1. VM prioritization that overlooks the reality of your environment. The traditional approach to vulnerability management often fails to prioritize based on true security risk. Just because a vulnerability is being exploited in the wild doesn't mean it poses a real threat in your specific environment. 2. Lack of visibility into compensating controls. Without clear awareness of existing security controls, teams may miss opportunities to mitigate exposures effectively, resulting in suboptimal prioritization. 3. Over-reliance on patching as the only mitigation option. Patching is typically slower than attackers' capabilities, and without effective prioritization, it becomes a cumbersome and inefficient process. 4. Limitations in SecOps. Threat intelligence and SOC threat detection often lack context regarding an enterprise's actual exposure and defensive capabilities, leading to inefficiencies and defensive gaps. Tuskira's approach aims to "preempt" exposure and developing attacks by optimizing what you remediate and detect, how you remediate and detect, and how you deploy and configure your security controls. The goal is to prevent cyber risks and stop developing exploits before they become threats within your specific environment. Too good to be true? You should be the judge. As we observe #EarthDay, I’m proud to share an inspiring blog post by my colleague, Charu Adesnik, Executive Director, Cisco Foundation, highlighting several organizations whose work aligns to Cisco’s corporate environmental sustainability strategy.   Take Jaza Energy, an organization revolutionizing clean energy access in Tanzania and Nigeria with solar hubs, creating sustainable alternatives to kerosene and generators. This not only illuminates thousands of homes but also empowers local communities, particularly women, through economic opportunities.   Another compelling story is about Green Wolf Costa Rica (GWCR). Through education, activation efforts, and the creation of sustainable souvenirs, GWCR transforms beach waste into opportunities while fostering resilience in vulnerable communities. Since 2019, GWCR has removed over 70 tons of beach waste and planted hundreds of trees in collaboration with community and corporate volunteers.   And then there’s Human-I-T. Through innovative solutions and a dedication to digital equity, this organization has made significant strides in connecting students and their households with the technology they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. In 2023 alone, Human-I-T distributed 60,000 devices to communities across the United States, trained 5,000 people with digital literacy skills, and diverted 3.4 million pounds of e-waste from landfills.    Incredible. I often talk about the criticality of public/private partnerships, and how – together – we can better address environmental and social issues. These initiatives resonate deeply with our values at Cisco and the Cisco Foundation, as we strive to create a healthier tomorrow.   #EarthDay #Sustainability #SocialImpact #WeAreCisco
