A patient is overwhelmed by medical decisions. How can you provide reassurance and guidance?
The most important thing that we need to do, but often don't, is ask what their ideal outcome is. We are always so quick to tell people what we think they should do, assuming they would want make the same decisions as we do. But that is so incorrect. People need to be heard. By simply asking what they want, we are inherently instilling reassurance that we are helping them towards the goals that will give them their highest quality of life possible. Once we know what they want, we help give them informed options and give them the time, and presence to ask thoughtful questions.

You're passionate about patient advocacy. How can you stay informed on cutting-edge healthcare technologies?
The first thing that comes to mind is the importance of being focused on the population of people that you are looking to help. Advocacy looks much different for parents of children, than adults themselves, than children of aging adults. Healthcare conditions also play a significant role in what you are recommending. Having said that I think there are variety of ways to understand this space. 1. Attending conferences like HLTH allow you to connect with companies to learn about what they are doing and the value propositions that they offer. 2. Engaging in your local startup community to discover what is currently in progress. This is a great way to build relationships with people who are creating products that you can help inform.
