The final ten minutes of Scott Galloway and Ed Olsen's latest (and highly addictive) Prof G podcast (https://lnkd.in/d6eKdJFt) explores the explosion of live-streaming—how it evolved from a niche gaming activity into a mainstream phenomenon. What I love is the analogy that streaming is like watching a football match surrounded by fans, while recorded content is like watching a game in an empty stadium. It's the live feedback, shared experience, and connection to the talent that makes streaming so incredibly engaging. For years, gamers have created the perfect storm of content, community, and chaos. They pioneered the art of keeping audiences glued—not just through gameplay, but through personality, banter, and live reactions. As Scott put it, "It's like going direct-to-consumer, cutting out the middleman, and letting fans drive the show." Gamers were ahead of the curve long before anyone else caught on. I first met Mike Maples, Jr in 2010, when Founders Network was just an idea. Over the years, Mike and his team at Floodgate (special shoutout to Arjun Chopra) have been great mentors, sharing their insights and guiding our founders. Most recently, their advice played a pivotal role in helping us launch Founders Network Fund. Today, Mike shared the key ideas with FN'ers from his new book Pattern Breakers (https://a.co/d/buKBd5O ), which explores the insights he’s gained from backing companies like Twitter, Twitch, and Okta -- and which put him on the Forbes Midas List 8x. This is the most important book on startups in the last ten years, according to Steve Blank. My notes on the key concepts of his talk: 1) Inflections – "not a trend but a change event that represents a turning point in our ability to provide empowerment." e.g. The GPS chip in iPhone 4s 2) Insights – "a non-consensus and right insight about the future that's powerful and non obvious and leverages inflections." e.g. Lyft = GPS + strangers driving you 3) Founder future fit – "Living in the future before other people live in the future and then try to build what's missing in the future." When change is the only the constant, the ability to be "in" the turbulence without letting it overtake you is vital for success. This guide from Wharton offers some excellent advice for navigating uncertainty by strategically managing workloads and priorities. It stresses the importance of maintaining a sustainable pace, making for breaks in the action and rest. Most notably, it suggests creating a list of "anti-goals" that encourages you identify what you can reasonably accomplish and avoid stretching yourself beyond your limits. #Leadership #ChangeManagement #Wellbeing

Vinod Khosla's TED Talk on "12 Predictions for the Future of Technology" is a must-watch for anyone interested in the potential of emerging technologies to transform our world. As a renowned venture capitalist and technology optimist, Vinod Khosla outlines a bold, exciting, and thought-provoking vision. Some of the key takeaways that resonated with me: - Thanks to AI, Expertise will become nearly free and widely accessible. Khosla envisions a world where everyone can access virtual doctors, tutors, and experts across domains at minimal cost. This democratization of knowledge could be genuinely transformative. - Labor will be largely automated, with billions of robots doing more work than all human labor today. While daunting, Khosla argues that if handled with empathy and proper redistribution, this will free humanity from servitude and create abundance. - Computers will become ubiquitous utilities that adapt to humans rather than vice versa. I admire Vinod Khosla's willingness to dream big and challenge conventional wisdom. While not all of Vinod Khosla's predictions may come to fruition, his talk gets you thinking expansively about the potential for technology to reshape our world in unique ways. In recent months, we have seen a significant expansion of Large Language Models (LLMs) beyond web-based chatbots and into enterprise-grade formats and applications, indicating progress towards a future where AI seamlessly integrates into our everyday life. As we continue to transition from personal LLM use cases and towards more professional solutions, I see three features as critically important to driving value in the enterprise: interoperability with vertical applications, edge computing, and resource efficiency. Why start from scratch when you could buy what already exists and scale it to new heights? I first encountered the search fund model—also called “entrepreneurship through acquisition”—as an MBA student at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and I often wondered why it hadn’t gained traction in the GCC. Now, it seems the model’s time in the region has finally arrived. For ambitious entrepreneurs, a search fund offers a unique path to impactful leadership. Instead of building a venture from zero, raising a search fund allows you to acquire a profitable business and grow it with fresh vision as a full-time CEO. Unlike traditional private equity, search fund entrepreneurs dedicate themselves to one business and build for the long haul. For investors, search funds have delivered over 35% IRR and 4.5x ROI—making it an appealing asset class with proven rewards. The GCC is primed for search funds. With many family-owned businesses and SMEs facing succession gaps, there’s a wealth of opportunity for driven leaders to step in, preserve legacies, and drive growth across sectors. We’re already seeing momentum. Gulf Succession Partners Ltd., backed by global investors such as ambit partners, launched earlier this year to target asset-light, profitable companies in the $750k–$2.5m EBITDA range, based in the UAE. More recently, Moonbase Capital announced a $15 million "Fund of Search Funds", with 40% allocated to SMEs in emerging markets like Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Their targets? During yesterday's LibreQoS APNIC webinar, I posed the question: won't more bandwidth solve these problems? As Herbert Wolverson said, yes, more bandwidth is good, but, still these problems remain if queueing is done incorrectly. Here's my take on why bandwidth alone is not as good as bandwidth + good queueing policies: Generally it was believed that 'data is important, so don't throw it away; hang on to it and send it later'. In practice, this has proven to be suboptimal as two issues may emerge: 1) latency increases for some flows due to heavy demand from other flows using the same bottleneck link, 2) even a single flow can have excessive latency due to aspects of typical TCP behavior (referred to bufferbloat) when the buffers grew large enough that the data being buffered was retransmitted anyway. It turns out that not all data is equally important. Active Queue Management is the art of deciding priorities, both in deciding what data to throw away, but also in allowing some later arriving data to be transmitted ahead of data in another connection that arrived before it. These problems have been studied, and good solutions have been found by using certain queueing policies in routers and switches, referred to as “fq_codel’ and “cake”. These track the different flows not by classifying the data, but by watching the behavior. Flows that send relatively little data (DNS lookups), or at a measured pace (video chat) have priority over flows that send a lot of data as quickly as possible (App and System updates, Video and ISO downloads).

While the Social Media Research Institute (SMRI) has yet to connect directly with these individuals in the UK mentioned below , plans are underway to establish a flagship presence there. This initiative aims to engage those interested in the field and provide university professors with opportunities to study and contribute to the development of Social Media Harm Reduction practices in the European Region. Which contributes to about $50 billion paid out because of social media related issues according to studies. I was surfing my notes taken during my time at MIT Sloan School of Management and I was surprised pleasantly by one class which was more fun than a serious lecture. It was called leadership seminar. It was taught to us by a Senior McKinsey Partner Vijay D'Silva . In every class there was one American CEO coming in person. Some of them failed as CEO , some of them retired as great CEOs and some of them were current CEOs. And I think Prof. deliberately ensured that all of them were not founder CEOs. While during the class I always kept on wondering and trying to get pattern from their sucess of failure. At the end I concluded that their was no pattern but the lessons to be learnt as a leader and manage your career with clear learnings from those lessons. I think for those of you wondering what are those lessons, I will keep it for some other day... You can do better networking but definitely it will not make you a successful leader or CEO . yes it can help you land into a starting hanky panky role .. you can try to lead larger teams and get good visibility but will it make you a successful leader ? .. possibly not .. You can remain as a polite leader who does trust his team .. Does it ensure sucess? possibly not... So what are the lessons for sucess in a Career , I am surprised that I just deduced it to just two heads.. Can you think of them ? if not I can let you know on a direct message if you are curious.. no free lunches for non curious career planners from me.... Enjoy!
