Here's a common reaction to the recruiting plan of building a diverse pool of candidates, doing outreach to find folks who might not know about the org and the open role: "But, we want to hire the BEST candidate still, right?" Well, BEST comes from good sourcing and attracting - it's what great recruiters do. It is bad business, bad ethics, and frankly, lazy, to go with the "most comforting" candidate or the one found through a monoculture network. Do better than show ignorance to the boundless talent out there. Utilize good recruiters - who have mad BD skills. They are searchers, connectors, they paint an accurate picture of the "product," they turn over stones. Imagine telling Sales, "let's not look into new markets; let's not go in search of customers who don't know us yet; let's not find clients who will give us feedback on how to make our product better." That's what lazy hiring says. We aren't finding the BEST when straight, white, able-bodied men are filling roles that over-represent that demo in large rates. Also - Clean up your process: - BEST means good interviewing, and using a vetted scorecard to ensure "the best" person really does get found, hired, and paid accordingly. - BEST means that the scorecard includes critical SKILLS like creating a sense of belonging, being resourceful, respecting and elevating others, not the non-skill of years of experience. - BEST means a person who will enhance, challenge and grow your culture, not "be a good fit" Contact me if you want to improve your processes, train your hiring managers, and treat candidates like solution finders, not boxes to check. Very interesting article. #1 reason employees feel employers want RTO - "most workers believe return-to-office (RTO) policies are about employers wanting more ‘control’ and that it exhibits (so employees say), a lack of ‘trust’." Survey also indicates that - "82% of workers have gotten used to it, (WFH) and instead say working remotely is now better for their mental health than working on-site. Will talent have the final say on where work is done?

In the last 6 months, I’ve had several friends impacted by company downsizing. This is a scary, difficult and frustrating time, and I in no way want to minimize their experience as it is a vulnerable place to be. With that said, this article takes an interesting look at company layoffs from a different angle- the impact to those still in the organization. Increased workloads, fear of losing their job and not understanding if there is future growth for their career are several key reasons engagement decreases after companies go through a layoff. As Talent & HR professionals, we should be prepared to support our organization through the ups and downs of business. Most companies have a form of performance review. General Motors is giving theirs an overhaul to help keep top talent and attract other high performers to their company. One trend with top talent and high performers - most want to work with others of a like mindset. When top performers see a company culture allowing poor performers to skate by for long periods of time top performers will look elsewhere. I’ve held a variety of roles in my HR career: Assistant, Coordinator, Support Coordinator, Advice Partner, Specialist, and now Business Partner. I’ve learned over the years that anyone at any level can show leadership. You don’t have to have “leader” or “supervisor” or “manager” in your title to set an example of excellence. It is my belief that excellence isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about having the belief that, on any team to which you belong, that you are all part of the same team, you just have different roles to play. It’s about employees knowing you’ll listen and be fair, and care about them as people, but you’ll still hold them accountable as employees. Leadership is about being human.

Why are TA still struggling to secure budget. To increase revenue, Sales & Marketing get an uptick, and 6-12 months to perform. But to improve your talent pipeline, you need to do that with 5-10% less, year on year.
