#DAY3 A journey of my #100DaysOfDataAnalysisAndMachineLearning. I had a busy day and felt so tired but as I laid on my bed, I remembered I needed to be consistent and committed to learning something new each day. Well, let me talk briefly about what I learnt today before I doze off 😂 - Sequel to my #DAY1 summary on #Frequency, today I learnt the application of #Frequency #Table and #Relative #Frequency #Table. - #Frequency #Table as used in the organization of data contains the following parameters; °#LowerandUpperClassBoundaries °#LowerandUpperClassLimits °#Tally °#Frequency (f) and lastly °#ClassMidPoint. - #Relative #Frequency #Table only has the addition of #RelativeFrequency (rf) to the #Frequency #Table. - #Relative #Frequency can be calculated by summing up all the frequency values and dividing the result by the individual frequencies. Mathematically, rf=f/n. Where n= sum total of all frequency values. - I got confused on the explanation of relative frequency data, but later got to understand that relative frequency data simply shows the relationship between two data functions eg. ratio of boys to girls in a class can be 60:40. - Having learnt the use of frequency tables as a means to organizing data, I dived into using #Histogram, #RelativeHistogram and lastly #DistributionOfShapes. - According to my understanding, #Histogram is the representation of data in bars joined together without any gap or space between bars, which can be drawn vertically or horizontally. - It's designed using the individual #Frequencies or #Relative #Frequencies (in terms of Relative Histogram) against #LowerandUpperClassBoundaries, #LowerandUpperClassLimits or #ClassMidPoints. My summary that's supposed to be brief is getting longer 😎 Chai, let me summarize the last part in fews words. - In the distribution of histogram shapes, there are five (5) major as follows: a) #Mound shaped histogram (symmetrical with one peak aka bell like) b) #Uniform/Rectangular shaped histogram (flat/symmetric) c) #Skewed Left histogram (long tail on left) d) #Skewed Right histogram (long tail on right) e) #Bimodal shaped histogram (two peaks) Anything above two (2) peaks , eg. 3, 4 etc. peaks are called #Multimodal shaped histogram, and are complicated and mostly rare. TALK, TALK AND MORE TALK WON'T GET US ANYWHERE! ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDEST! When African leaders gather at AU Summits, what do they discuss and implement really? What do they enact? After all these years of talking, are we still at this point seriously? What is stopping us having a unifying visa and currency in this great continent of mine with 54 countries? Why are we still trading in US dollars printed in the US? Sometimes, we are our own problems.. This was me thinking it was now easier for me to travel to Kenya and Rwanda with what their respective presidents said last year, but it seems not or can someone kindly explain if it is truly now easier? African leaders, you all need to do better! How are we making things easier for for people from outside our continent to come into the continent while those within the continent find it difficult to move within the continent? Colonial Mentality? Colonialism? Neo- Colonialism? Not giving issues a deeper thought? If Dangote needs 35 different visas to travel within the continent, then how many will a 'common man' need? A shared vision fosters alignment and encourages creativity. 2. Open Communication: Build a culture of transparency where feedback is welcomed and issues are addressed promptly. This prevents bottlenecks and allows for smoother collaboration. 3. Defined Roles: Each team member should know their specific responsibilities. Clear role delineation eliminates confusion and helps everyone play to their strengths. 4. Recognition: Celebrate both big wins and small successes. Positive reinforcement keeps morale high and motivates everyone to continue performing at their best. 5. Continuous Learning: Encourage skill development. Investing in training, workshops, or industry trends helps the team stay on top of their game. Productivity thrives in an environment where the team feels supported, motivated, and equipped to excel. The Challenges with Netflix Nigeria: A Filmmaker's Perspective Recent reports about Netflix’s decision to shift its business model in Nigeria have sparked significant conversations in the industry. Notably, filmmakers like Kunle Afolayan have voiced their concerns about Netflix’s move from commissioning original Nollywood content to a “fund-your-movie” model. Under this new approach, producers must independently fund their projects, and Netflix will decide whether to acquire them based on market potential and consumer demand. This decision stems from a lack of strong return on investment (ROI) from commissioned content. To put this into perspective, Nigeria, with its vast population of over 200 million, has about 170,000 Netflix subscribers compared to South Africa’s 1.2 million. This disparity is striking, especially given that Nigeria is home to Nollywood, the world’s third-largest movie industry, celebrated for its reach and volume. So why hasn’t Netflix been able to tap into Nigeria’s massive potential audience? If you look closely, the answer lies in the kind of content being produced. Many of Netflix’s recent Nollywood acquisitions have focused on a specific demographic—primarily the Yoruba-speaking audience—with films like Anikulapo, Elesin Oba and Ijogbon. While these films might resonate with some, their limited cultural scope excludes a significant portion of the Nigerian audience. Let’s not forget that before Netflix became a dominant player, many Nigerians turned to YouTube for local movies. This trend hasn’t shifted entirely because Netflix hasn’t fully captured the diverse cultural landscape of Nigerian storytelling. The most successful Nigerian films, such as Lionheart, Blood Sisters, King of Boys, The Wedding Party, A Tribe Called Judah, Tokunbo, etc. owe their success to their cross-cultural appeal. These films didn’t cater to just one region or ethnicity; instead, they told stories that resonated with Nigerians from all walks of life, creating broad national and even international appeal. From my perspective as a filmmaker, this should be a wake-up call for content creators. Rather than lamenting Netflix’s new business model, we need to focus on creating compelling, cross-cultural content that bridges regional divides. By telling stories that reflect the diversity of Nigeria and resonate across its many cultures, we can attract broader audiences and strengthen the industry’s marketability. Netflix’s shift might seem like a setback, but it also presents an opportunity to reassess how we tell our stories. If we don’t adapt, there’s a strong chance Nigerian audiences will return to YouTube as their go-to platform for quality local content. As filmmakers, it’s up to us to ensure that Nollywood remains a unifying force in storytelling, appealing to audiences both at home and abroad.

MY 3MTT WEEKLY REFLECTION TITLE: TRANSFORMING OUR ESTATE'S PAYMENT SYSTEM WITH DATA-DRIVEN SOLUTIONS As a Data Analysis and Visualization Fellow, I applied my skills to solve a real issue in our neighborhood at Kumbotso LGA Kano State. Every month, homeowners contribute to essential services like security and waste management, yet tracking payments was chaotic, with frequent delays and record keeping done on paper, creating room for errors. Seeing this, I developed a digital solution to make a real difference. The Solution: Data-Driven Payment Tracking I built a system using Airtable for organized payment records and Twilio to automate SMS reminders. The Estate committee can now monitor payments in real time and send friendly reminders, easing the entire process. Using visual analytics, I presented the results to the committee, demonstrating how this change would increase efficiency and accountability. The Impact: The response was overwhelmingly positive. The Estate Committee now enjoys transparent, efficient tracking, and residents appreciate the easy reminders. This project demonstrated the power of data to create real change and even inspired new ideas for more tech-driven solutions in our neighborhood.Thanks to 3MTT, I’m able to bring impactful, practical solutions to my community, one data-driven step at a time. PERSONAL EXPERIENCES AND STORIES My Journey through Sony Photography Training: An Experience at Covenant University While at Covenant University, I had the privilege of participating in an exclusive Sony photography training, organized by Sony Cameras. The training took place over two intense but rewarding days—Fridays and Saturdays— allowing me to fully dedicate myself even though it took place over the weekend. I knew that this was an opportunity I couldn’t miss, as it was bound to enhance my photography skills and open doors for growth. The first day of the training was an eye-opener. We were introduced to the fundamentals of professional photography, with a focus on the technical aspects of using Sony cameras. We learned about camera settings, lenses, lighting, and how to capture moments with precision. Beyond the technical lessons, we also had the opportunity to meet key industry figures—photographers and experts who shared invaluable insights into the art and business of photography. The training was not just educational but also engaging, with ample refreshments and opportunities for networking. I met many like-minded individuals who shared my passion for photography, which was a fantastic experience in itself. The second day was where the real hands-on learning happened. It was dedicated to practical sessions where we were divided into groups and challenged to take photos that conveyed meaning and told a compelling story. Each group member brought their unique perspective to the table, and I learned a great deal from my peers. We experimented with different styles and techniques, capturing everything from candid moments to carefully composed shots. This collaborative process not only sharpened my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of the power of visual storytelling. At the end of the day, our photos were carefully reviewed by the training team. Their feedback was constructive, helping us understand what worked well and what could be improved. The assessment was a key moment, giving me the opportunity to improve my skills and see how my photography could connect with others.      After completing the training and receiving my certification, I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride. This experience not only advanced my photography skills but also reinforced my passion for visual storytelling; something I know will play a key role in my future career in communication, advertising, and public relations.

THROWBACK TWO'S DAY Please, lend your ears for a moment if you will. Last week, I was privileged to speak at the Fashion Law Institute, Nigeria #flbc2024 event as a result of their partnership with Announce Digital Fashion. In that gathering we had Traditional Fashion designers, Digital Fashion designers, Lawyers etc. amongst others. The topic for my plenary session was tagged " Building Africa's Digital Fashion Community". At this event which took place at Ikoyi, I saw on-screen beautiful outfits on display; digital fashion designers exhibited their portfolio of #3d and #AI apparels. I currently specialise in #SocialAR and sometimes use #3dGarment creation softwares. To a large extent, I know to use the #Clo3d and #Style3d softwares. On screen, I saw some beautiful designs on static poses, default Animations and default backgrounds from these softwares. I believe that some of these talents have great #African stories to tell but, for lack of technical know-how and lack of resources, stuck to using the software's templates; talking about in-built pose/animation, and hardware/software for rendering high quality animated scenes respectively. We want to grow Africa's Digital Fashion Industry, we need to groom talents that can compete on a global stage. I'd love to see y'all collaborate with our #digitalfashion designers' Community. Winding up an ‘event-full’ October with two days at The AI Expo Africa 2024 this week. If I’ve learnt anything by being immersed in this deep-dive world of AI beyond the mere end-user interface, it’s this. We are stepping into what can be termed as the 4th Industrial Revolution, where there is a blending of physical, digital and biological worlds, with AI being one of the key aspects which would enable this. AI is here, (has been here longer than most realize) but the mainstream buy-in and popularisation has allowed serious funds to start pouring into this world’s tech advancement and engineering, allowing such exponential growth it’s leapfrogged us years ahead. However, a few of the main themes now are how do we answer 1. Need for Governance, for Security, for Ethics, for Policies and Protection, also as we aim to create our own African AI Sovereignty (as Mark Nasila puts it) and 2. grab hold of this golden opportunity to be part of a predicted $1.3T industry by 2032? I learned about fascinating use cases and case studies. I heard about new custom AI shopping assitants, and the worlds largest AI ‘Factories’, about AI hallucinations and the conflict of data protection vs AI requiring large sets of data in order to learn, about AI agents that go beyond chatbots and copilots using advanced reasoning capabilities, I learned AI is easy to buy and hard to sell, I learned how AI is being approached by Google and Heineken, and I learned there is GREAT need to incorporate AI training and policies into our educational system. My own takeaway? We all need to be cautiously curious about AI. We’ll need to work together to harness this tech that’s becoming increasingly integrated with our lives, while we figure out how to do it responsibly and collectively. Phew… my brain feels like this 360 camera after all the incredible talks I listened to at 3 different events this month. During my conversation with my brother, Daro Umaigba, I mentioned that many of our leaders lack a true African experience. Most of them have never lived in or visited an African country unless it was for official duties. As a result, it is difficult for them to consider Africa when designing policies. For instance, if you read the campaign documents of most African presidential candidates, you will not find references to the African Single Market Integration facilitated by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat or the Open Border agenda, which includes the protocol on the "Free Movement of Africans" or the Single African Air Transport Market. These agendas have the potential to create millions of jobs and promote shared prosperity through African economic integration. We need leaders who prioritize internal (African) considerations before looking externally. Rwanda 🇷🇼 has set an example that we should all follow. To visit Rwanda as an African, you only need to get on a plane—there are no visa restrictions, no unnecessary immigration delays, and no discrimination, even if your country does not have a good relationship with Rwanda. Weekly Reflection: Journey Through Challenges and Growth In these past 11 weeks with 3MTT Nigeria my proudest accomplishment has been pushing past my own limits and embracing data analytics—a field I once found intimidating. My first breakthrough came when I completed a complex dataset analysis, a task that initially seemed insurmountable. Seeing my efforts turn raw numbers into meaningful insights gave me a confidence boost I didn’t know I needed. But it wasn’t without challenges. Balancing my demanding 9-to-5 job with this intense learning program was my biggest hurdle. I often felt drained, questioning if I had the energy to keep going after long workdays. Many nights, I’d find myself up late, wrestling with Excel formulas and tutorial videos, wondering if it would all be worth it. But each small win—each successfully created chart or insight—kept me moving forward. Looking ahead, I want to deepen my storytelling skills in data analytics. I’ve come to realize that presenting data with a narrative is just as crucial as the analysis itself, especially to connect with people and drive impact.
