I asked Mihai Tataran if OpenAI or Microsoft have access to other APIs than the rest of the public; his interesting point was that it's not about other APIs, but the orchestration tools and infrastructure they use outside the models. Russia, Iran, and China are generating about 20% to 30% of the political content and comments on social media. Primarily spouting right-wing disinformation. Be careful who and what you interact with. Some of the disinformation being spread is costing the lives and livelihoods of people like the folks in Asheville who are desperately trying to rebuild their lives. Best practice - do not interact with disinformation posts/posters: Mark their content as misinformation for linkedin and move on.

Technology and Genocide: Post 2 #TechForPalestine #TechForPeace Google was established with the motto "don't be evil," which later evolved to "do the right thing." However, Google is failing to uphold both mottos by engaging in the cloud computing work under Project Nimbus, initiated by the Israeli government and military. According to the International Court of Justice, they are plausibly committing genocide. Videos, reports, and statistics depict the tragic reality of 15,000 children killed in 150 days of genocide, averaging 100 deaths per day, equivalent to the destruction of five September 11 towers filled with innocent children. This reality underscores Google's departure from its ethical principles. Its current leadership practices support Zionist agendas over Google's main mission, inverting the motto and leading technology down the darkest of paths. Similarly, Amazon's slogan "work hard, have fun, make history" is compromised by contracting with Project Nimbus, contributing to a shameful history. The terms of the contract prohibit service disruption due to boycott pressure and deny service to specific government entities. While executives may choose complicity, engineers need not follow suit. As engineers and tech workers, we should not be subjected to exploitative contracts, especially those facilitating genocide. Company decisions should not align with government policies that mandate unethical actions. Similarly, companies should not feel compelled to sign such contracts due to pressure from powerful elites or political influence. However, companies like Amazon and Google have the autonomy to accept or reject contracts with governments, including their own. By accepting the Nimbus contract worth $1.2 billion, these companies are reducing the lives of 5 million Palestinians living under the illegal Israeli military occupation to mere economic transactions, valued at $240,000 per life. This amounts to the average yearly salary of a software engineer. Is it justifiable to equate the loss of all human rights, including the right to life, for a Palestinian with your yearly income? As engineers and tech workers, don't succumb to contracts like Nimbus, as we directly witness the harrowing consequences on the other end of the system—ongoing genocide against the children of Gaza. It's abhorrent. In software development and computer science, the principle of "garbage in, garbage out" emphasizes the vital importance of improving input to prevent flawed outcomes. A few thoughts after visiting the Hadrian library - Hadrian library was estimated to have housed 17000 books. This would make it one of largest in the ancient world. In comparison, the library of Alexandria was estimate to have 200,000 to 700000; Google Books 40 million. - Everyone of us have access to that much information in our pockets. 17000 books would fit on a 32 Gb Kindle Paperwhite. TL;DR: Kaiser Permanente realized they were accidentally sending sensitive user information to Google, Adobe (!!! they're TERRIBLE at security), Twitter, Microsoft and a bunch of others. Even though there's no indication of a leak or any misuse, they removed the tags (snippets of code that collect user info and usage data, then send them to aggregators for analysis). So, let's dig into this a bit. First, I have to commend KP for acting preemptively here. Well... except for that one person in Hacker News who claims they reported this exact issue 3 years ago. Anyway... Nowadays I find it a bit baffling when large companies, or ones that handle trade secrets or sensitive user data, use third-party tags. You're increasing your area of exposure, and trusting this third party to not share/leak the data or steal from you themselves. I haven't dealt with tags in a while, but I assume there's better solutions to collect user data without going through a third-party. And even if you still use third-parties: ANONYMIZE YOUR USER EVENT STREAM! Makes me wonder: were KP, and are other medical companies with similar practices, compliant with HIPAA? What about CCPA? As a user though... I'm so glad I block all analytics by default. uBlock Origin, Pi-hole and similar tools are a necessity to keep your data safe.
