I was totally fascinated by the deep traditions and customs of Imperial China after checking out Marco Polo's stories about his trip to see Emperor Kublai Khan. During that era, there was a prevailing belief that the Chinese empire was the center of the world, and its ruler was seen as the son of Heaven, a divine figure embodied in human form. China has always maintained a strong sense of identity, successfully integrating foreign cultures throughout its history. Even Kublai Khan, the Mongol ruler who invaded China, ultimately embraced Chinese customs and traditions. This ability to absorb conquerors into its cultural fabric ensured that China never faced the threat of losing its national identity. The quest for power in China can be traced back to its first emperor, Shih Hwang-Tih, who unified the country in 221 BC, a legacy that continued until the Qing dynasty's decline in 1912. In the present day, China is focused on achieving dominance in artificial intelligence, with significant support from the government for its leading tech companies—Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent. In the year 102, a significant figure in Chinese history, Pan Tschao, who commanded the Chinese armies for 31 years and successfully brought the western provinces under control, shared some parting wisdom: "A government with a limited perspective cannot gain the support of its people. It is essential to be generous and forgiving, to let minor errors slide, and to focus on the key principles of governance." Leadership actions transcend time. What the great Chinese leader achieved with his armies can be accomplished today by a manager in a company. Exceptional leaders recognize that fostering high performance comes from winning over their team members' hearts through kindness, support, respect, and genuine attention, ultimately creating a happy and motivated team. When employees are happy at work, they are more likely to stay with the company, strive for greater achievements, and perform well. Additionally, this sense of happiness fosters innovation and enthusiasm for their tasks. Leaders play a crucial role in helping employees grasp their rights and responsibilities, fostering a shared understanding that promotes happiness and minimizes the risk of conflicts. Leaders not only need to keep an eye on numbers and outcomes, but they also have to prioritize creating a work environment where the team feels genuinely happy to be there. "American culture 'has venerated mediocrity over excellence,' leading to a nation that does 'not produce the best engineers.'" 🤦🏽Look, if you want to do business in the U.S., it’s reasonable to expect investment in its citizens through hiring, training, or supporting education. Many nations demand far more just for market access to sell products. Ignoring education and workforce development leaves the population vulnerable to manipulation—an issue both political parties seem to tolerate, as high school remains a four-year standard unchanged for over a century. Education is the primary pathway to the American dream. Neglecting it while relying on talent from countries that prioritize education undermines fairness and sustainability for the nation you’re operating in.

Russia, Iran, and China are generating about 20% to 30% of the political content and comments on social media. Primarily spouting right-wing disinformation. Be careful who and what you interact with. Some of the disinformation being spread is costing the lives and livelihoods of people like the folks in Asheville who are desperately trying to rebuild their lives. Best practice - do not interact with disinformation posts/posters: Mark their content as misinformation for linkedin and move on.

About an hour ago, OpenAI just released a new ChatGPT called GPT-4o. The demos included stopped me dead in my tracks. Here are some highlights. 1. The "o" in GPT-4o stands for "Omni" (meaning "all"). The idea is this new technology is usable with text, audio, images, and video. ChatGPT is growing its ears and eyes and putting them to work quickly. Here's a video of it teaching math by watching (using a camera) a student work through a problem. (https://lnkd.in/gS46Fe8v) 2. It's faster. Noticeably faster. If you've used the voice chat in your ChatGPT application you'll notice the conversations feel a bit... slow. Well, now it's getting closer to the regular pacing you'd expect from a person. 3. It's cheaper. 50% cheaper to use as an API. This means that all those applications that are utilizing OpenAI (which is almost everyone at this point), are going to be able to afford the *better models.* And you, the user, will benefit. 4. It is much better at sounding human and understanding "tone" and emphasis. It will now be much more empathetic to *how* you say things, and respond in kind. Now it can be sarcastic, or even sing back to you. I suggest everyone tuning in and watching. This is another big step for AI that you need to understand, regardless of who you are or what you do.

A few thoughts after visiting the Hadrian library - Hadrian library was estimated to have housed 17000 books. This would make it one of largest in the ancient world. In comparison, the library of Alexandria was estimate to have 200,000 to 700000; Google Books 40 million. - Everyone of us have access to that much information in our pockets. 17000 books would fit on a 32 Gb Kindle Paperwhite. My fellow Americans, please wake up. Israel is committing genocide & ethnic cleansing with the weapons & tax dollars we keep giving them. Not only have around 70% of the people that Israel has been killing been WOMEN (>10K) & CHILDREN (>14K), but they have also been killing & starving babies, disabled people, the elderly, & pregnant women. And most of the men they’ve been killing have been civilians – fathers, grandfathers, & even great grandfathers, & they are now finding mass graves all over Gaza proving this. They’ve even killed over 400 doctors, nurses, & medics, over 220 U.N. aid workers, & over 140 journalists (because their pesky cameras document too much evidence). And they’ve destroyed most of the homes, hospitals, schools, & infrastructure, making most of Gaza uninhabitable, as their leaders promised multiple times, & already have plans to move in Jewish settlers. So if you still doubt that Israel is committing both genocide & ethnic cleansing with the weapons & funding that WE keep giving them, then I have bridge to sell you. 🙏Please write & call your representatives & the White House to demand they stop helping Israel kill children & maintain its brutal, racist apartheid with our tax dollars.
