Funding Women's Health: Women Investors Are Crucial Did you know women's health innovation is on the cusp of a boom? Read my latest article in Forbes about how Trish Costello, CEO of Portfolia, has been educating #WomenAccreditedInvestors to invest as #limitedpartners (#LPs) in #VentureCapital funds focused on #WomensHealth and #FemTech. Nonprofit leaders - what’s missing from this list of agencies and consultants who support your work? George Weiner and his team at Whole Whale have done the work to identify and analyze which consulting agencies are being called on, and for which services. But… there’s something missing from this list. There’s a huge hole in the middle of this analysis… 🕳️ Can you see it? ‼️There are no agencies or consultants listed for leadership development and organizational change! Personally, I think the absence of these consulting services is rather telling… I know that these services are being provided. And that some organizations do make significant investments in building their capacity to lead through change. And yet…. These nonprofits are all about social change. They work in complex environments. They are impacted by the actions of countless others, including donors, legislators, policy makers, regulators, service providers, even organizations with similar missions. But they don’t “appear” to be investing in their own internal capacity to work with and influence change! ❓Is it not important enough? ❓Is there no urgency around this? ❓Are they unsure of the benefits they will get from investing in this area? My own experience is that investing in your capacity to work with and lead change makes a critical contribution to the vitality, resilience, and sustainability of your organization and its impact. ❓What do you think? Absolutely essential. When you think you have mastered your own mind and are resilient/bulletproof, that's when you need to re-invest in it - you've become complacent and are vulnerable. You won't win every battle in your startup though; you need to be good at getting back up off the ground. Sustainable resilience is simply your elasticity/refusal to stay down in the face of whatever it is at the time 🤷🏼 Join this ⬇️

Have you heard about The Fearless Fund? "Fearless Fund invests in women of color led businesses seeking pre-seed, seed level or series A financing. Our mission is to bridge the gap in venture capital funding for women of color founders building scalable, growth aggressive companies. Fearless Fund is built by women of color for women of color." These are $20K grants. And along comes (expletive) Edward Blum, leader of The American Alliance for Equal Rights (AAER) (don't let the name fool you), who is behind dismantling Affirmative Action across all U.S. institutions, and he is now suing Fearless Fund for "racial discrimination." And he is doing it using Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which barred racial discrimination in contracts - meant to assist formerly enslaved people in obtaining economic opportunity. The point of this post is twofold: 1. To raise awareness - links in the comments 2. To solicit suggestions for ways in which we can show our support for Fearless Fund and disdain for those who deny Black women access to funding and opportunity for their ventures. BTW (expletive) Blum also filed a lawsuit against the Smithsonian for their internship program for LatinX youth to attract more diversity into museum jobs. This guy is a real peach and he's coming for all of us who believe in human potential and equality. What can we do together?

As we head into Techstars Demo Day, I am so excited to share that less than a week after our soft launch for pre-order, Seek has reached nearly $14K in initial sales. We didn't put heavy marketing spend behind our soft launch or do an earned media campaign. Our goal was $10K in initial sales, which felt attainable for a bootstrapped business less than a year into building. We blew past this in only five days. I am so grateful for the way our community has shown up for us as we've gotten our product out into the world - especially other women in femtech. The brainstorms, honest feedback, warm introductions, late-night voice notes and overall support is unlike anything I've ever seen. Seek is a product made by women, solving a problem that disproportionally impacts women (and has for way too long). I am so energized by all of the conversations I've had with other women who believe in our mission and have experienced the problem we're building to solve firsthand. It's weird that alcohol affects the female body differently and impacts how we feel even on the days we don't drink, but we've never taken a closer look at why. It's urgent that more women are dying from alcohol-related conditions than ever in history (35% in the US and 46% in the UK) - especially younger women. Seek is building to solve for both the near-term and the long-term problem.
