What do you do if your boss's feedback on business strategy is constantly critical?
I recommend reading the book "Extreme Ownership" by Jocko Wilson. If something is failing, you are not being supported, there is confusion, own it and do something about it. If your boss is vague, or you don't understand concerns or next steps, seek clarity. Be transparent, upfront, honest. If there is a problem with behaving this way then that is OK, find what that problem is. The worst situation is one of ambiguity, confusion, and FUD.

What do you do if industry trends and changes are leaving you behind as a leader?
If you are a leader and you feel you are being left behind in your industry then you are doing yourself a disservice. By definition either you are not a leader or you are not being honest with yourself. Return to the habits that previously made you a leader, which starts with continuous learning. When people tell me they don't have time, I always tell them that is not true. They are setting different priorities. I back this up with a personal example. However busy I am, i always find time to drink beer. I think we are all the same. Being a leader is about making hard first order changes that lead to better second order outcomes.

What do you do if your innovative software ideas aren't getting through to stakeholders?
Software is a tool. Don't focus on the tool, focus on the big thing you are changing and what that means to the people you are trying to convince. Focus on their success and yours will follow. A colleague once framed this perfectly by saying "Focus on getting the other person paid". That can be from a career point of view, a money point of view, a knowledge and happiness point of view. It is not about you. Unfortunately, it never is :)

Welcome to the zero-distance world, where old ways of governing and managing are no longer effective, and there's a new rule book on how to win. This new rule book transforms systems that have not changed for many years (business), others that have not changed for many hundreds of years (politics), and some that have not changed for thousands of years (trade, and money itself).

This new rule book transforms systems that have not changed for many years (business), others that have not changed for many hundreds of years (politics), and some that have not changed for thousands of years (trade, and money itself).
How do we understand this rule book? We need to start by understanding that change is moving from human to machine, from prescriptive to learning. And then we need to understand the combined powers these technologies have on all existing systems.Other authorsSee publication -

Today, the leaders of major industries are being challenged, seemingly overnight, powerless to control their own destiny despite their legacy, strength and footprint. Change is happening at an exponential rate and humans are not naturally engineered to cope with such a rapid pace of change.
