Every organization, regardless of industry, needs a well-defined and purpose-driven data strategy, whether by partnering with the right tech company or building the expertise in-house. 2. It's increasingly important for leadership and management to have some level of engineering skills and, at the very least, a technically accurate intuitive understanding of the implications of applying Machine Learning techniques.

What’s your builder story? In my role volunteering as the community lead for Shreyas Doshi’s Product Club, I get the amazing opportunity to ask some of the world’s best PMs this question on a weekly basis. A couple of weeks back I got to host a community event with Suhel Parekh (Principal PM at Microsoft), where we explored his amazing ~decade at Microsoft building workplace search and chat products for enterprises. Suhel’s been with this product portfolio from its first enterprise user all the way to millions of MAUs today. His journey is full of deep and actionable learnings. The full event recording is for Product Club members only (we keep it closed so folks can be more candid), but here are my top takeaways: (1) For an enterprise product, partnering with sales and helping them succeed is everything! Suhel built unusually deep relationships with sales and customer success teams over the years, and they in-turn went above and beyond to bat for his product - often doing more than they were being 'officially' incentivized to do. (2) What helped the workplace search product gather traction initially and take off was a demo in an industry conference for CIOs. Old-school channels like trade shows and conferences are not often top-of-mind. But guess what? CXOs go to these as speakers/award winners all the time and come back with networking-generated action items for their teams. (3) Launching with a white gloved program that worked closely with customers initially and nurtured relationships over the years helped shape up a lot of Microsoft's enterprise success story for search and chat. Finally, a bonus takeaway: No surprises here, but AI in the workplace is here to stay! LinkedIn and Microsoft have some some great data showing that 75% of global knowledge workers already use it (even though half are still reluctant to admit they do!). Three-quarters of leaders are saying “they’d rather hire a less experienced candidate with AI skills than a more experienced candidate without them”. In this week's Future Founders & Leaders Bootcamp session, I gained valuable insights into leadership, startup culture, and the importance of strategic planning. The experience was enlightening and helped me better understand the nuances of building and leading a successful team. From Subbu Rama's Session on Lean Startup Methodology, I learnt: Budgeting Essentials: Proper allocation and monitoring of funds are crucial for a startup's survival and growth. Maintaining Burn Cash: Always have a reserve of cash to sustain the business during tough times and unforeseen circumstances. No Titles in Startups: Focus on roles and responsibilities rather than titles to foster a collaborative and flexible work environment. Pivoting Quickly: Be prepared to change direction based on customer feedback and market conditions. Minimum Viable Product (MVP): Start with a basic version of your product to validate assumptions and iterate based on real-world data. Colleen A. Blake's Session was extremely informative on: Importance of HR: HR plays a vital role in creating a positive workplace culture and ensuring compliance with regulations. Team Development: Investing in team development enhances employee engagement, productivity, and retention. Onboarding Process: A well-structured onboarding process helps new hires integrate smoothly and understand the company's vision and values. Continuous Learning: Encourage continuous learning and development to keep the team updated with industry trends and skills. Conflict Resolution: Effective conflict resolution strategies are essential to maintaining a harmonious work environment. Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking with the incredible Sri Shivananda during a fireside chat at the 2nd annual Intuit PE Summit. Over 250 top engineers in Intuit from all over the world gathered at the event, making it the perfect opportunity to discuss AI and the transformative role of leadership in tech innovation. Sri’s human-first approach to leadership and emphasis on fostering soft skills sparked an engaging discussion about the power of influence in the workplace. The primary operating system of an organization involves reporting relationships - such as manager to employee. However, real information sharing, work, and collaboration actually occur through a secondary network of experts connecting with each other to achieve the highest possible velocity. Sri emphasized the importance of combining IQ with emotional intelligence (EQ), curiosity (CQ), and grit to drive innovation forward and the pivotal role that we, as engineers, play in this process. 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 Complex features that span multiple sprints make it difficult to define meaningful goals in short timeframes. 𝟓. 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝 While reducing meetings is a goal, finding the right balance between productivity and necessary collaboration is key. 𝟔. 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 A custom-scaled Agile framework provided the flexibility needed to adjust processes and meet project-specific needs. As I reflect on the journey of my career, I am often asked by college students about the most important skills that have helped me advance. While technical skills and industry knowledge are crucial, I believe that the following personal qualities have played an even more pivotal role: 1. Honesty: In a world where trust is a valuable currency, being truthful and transparent has opened doors and built lasting relationships. Honesty creates a foundation of trust that is essential for any successful collaboration or partnership. 2. Integrity: Upholding strong moral principles and consistently doing the right thing, even when it’s difficult, has earned me respect and credibility. Integrity is about being consistent in actions, values, methods, and principles, and it’s what helps you stand firm during challenging times. 3. Kindness: Never underestimate the power of being kind. Simple acts of kindness can foster a positive work environment and enhance teamwork. People remember how you make them feel, and kindness helps in building supportive networks. 4. Empathy: Understanding and sharing the feelings of others have allowed me to connect deeply with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders. Empathy enables better communication, stronger relationships, and more effective problem-solving. These qualities have not only advanced my career but have also enriched my personal and professional life.
