Like any other tech enthousiast, i like conversing about AI. Although the concept of a Large Language Model (LLM) can sometimes be hard to grasp, i feel like many people are very interested in the functioning of these AI's. What is exactly that makes them so 'intelligent', and how are they created using what technology. That's why i have created this short carousel that makes an analogy between the biological intelligence we are all familiar with, and the artificial intelligence that has been taking the world by storm in the last few years. We as humans have become intelligent thanks to evolution, which is quite comparable to the 'training' that AI's undergo. The difference is that we fast-track it using computer science! Which in my opinion is awesome. And no, i didn't mean to start the 'playing as god' debate that might interfere in the future with the creation of these new super-intelligences, i just love technology. Enjoy the read!

It’s common for mid-level developers to overcomplicate things that could be simple. The transition from junior to senior involves a lot of learning and applying new concepts, which often leads to over-engineering. With experience we realize that not everything needs to be abstracted and simplicity often leads to the best solutions

This may sound a bit strange. At some point, back in the Corona days, the job market had come to a dead stop. A good week meant I had been contacted by 2 or 3 agencies talking about or following up on (new) job applications. Some recruiters decided to change their approach. They reached out once a week like clockwork. Every conversation was similar. First, they would speak about new job prospects for 3-4 minutes. The rest of the conversation then revolved around any recent job applications I had started during the last week. In week 1, they talked about Company A looking for some new hires. When I expressed my interest, they said they would contact me as soon as they received feedback. A week later, a new call... no more mentioning of Company A, but Company B is also hiring. Would I be interested? And... ah yes... what was new on my end? Have I received any new job offers or started exploring them? This went on and on... And it wasn't just one recruiter. Most of my calls between June and September 2020 were of this sort. Luckily, the job market picked up again, and the practice was abandoned (thank God). Lately, however, I have started to get them back again. So far, it's been limited to recruiters from 1 agency, but it makes me wonder... Have any of you also experienced this kind of time-wasting lately? I know the market seems slow, but why bother potential job candidates this way?

Their website had potential, but it was missing one crucial ingredient: 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘚𝘌𝘖-𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵. To make matters worse, their 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 were barely getting any attention. We stepped in and transformed their digital presence. I Built a Site Without Text Content 🤯 No description, no CTA, nothing, just pictures. 🖼 BHRAMMA is a personnal project. I built a Photography studio website. Creative Developement is also thinking a bit out of the box. But still being relevant. Photography studio are marketing using the quality of their pictures. So pictures has to be the star, no one else on stage. 🌟 I wanted to create the animated-site-version of a photographer spreading his pictures on a table. I am pretty happy with the result. Do you really think that Leetcode and its companions are suitable to assess the knowledge of a medior/senior? This is a huge misconception, I experienced it myself as both a professional recruiter and a candidate. We had a great workshop with Xavier Van de Woestyne at Lambda Nantes yesterday evening, starting to build a λ-calculus interpreter. We plan to run a series of such workshops and to make those even more fun I have started building a clone of the fantastic Extreme Startup game by Robert Chatley. The idea is to have teams "compete" to build an interpreter for a λ-calculus like language, using S-expression syntax to simplified parsing. Each team build their interpreter with an HTTP interface, then register with a server that starts sending them expressions to evaluate, in increasing order of complexity and compares the actual answer with the expected one. I had a lot of fun participating and running such workshops in the past and hope this little twist will add a new dimension to the exercise of building a language. The overarching goal is to cover the whole spectrum of computing, from high-level language down to logic gates and CPU, through OS and Virtual machines. Time to share another project! I could write a lengthy blog post about the various bits of this one but for now I will share some notes and let you check it out yourself, if you like. Announcing Twist, central Iowa’s favorite soda shop. You can find their custom-made mobile cart at various local events or visit their downtown Bondurant walk-up shop before it closes for the season. I tend to only take on projects I am really excited about, and this one is no different. ⚫ One, the owners are close family friends and it’s been amazingly rewarding to contribute a small amount towards their early success. ⚫ Two, the graphics part of making your own customized drink was fun to build. Really the whole reactivity system (using SvelteJS) was fun. ⚫ Three, there’s a customer-facing side of the site but also a part that you won’t get to see, which is their point-of-sale and back office reporting which leverages most of the same architecture behind the scenes. The customer-facing site just launched but they have been using it as a POS system this whole year. Though online ordering isn’t generally available yet, I made a demo capability that simulates how they do their “drink drop” orders and also is essentially the same online ordering experience that will exist when they launch it next year.
