One in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness, yet access to treatment remains a challenge. This is especially true for lower-income individuals and minority populations who bear a disproportionate burden of both mental health and chronic conditions. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Non-Hispanic White adults (52%) are more than twice as likely to receive treatment for a mental illness compared to Asian Americans (25%). Those numbers increase modestly among the Hispanic or Latino (36%) and Black or African American (39%). What barriers prevent racial and ethnic minority groups, as well as other marginalized, rural, and under-resourced populations, from accessing treatment? What are the unique mental health needs of racially and ethnically diverse communities? What is the economic cost of not investing in mental health services, treatments, and programs? How can we change the conversation around minority mental health to reduce stigma and encourage more integrated, equitable care? What an honor it was to partner with Alnylam Pharmaceuticals to deliver a workshop focused on mindful eating and staying active during the busy holiday season. This experience was a reminder to me and all of the participants that even the most dedicated, high-performing leaders can’t pour from an empty cup.✋🏾 I know that being a leader comes with a unique set of challenges. Somewhere in the middle of all that responsibility, it seems like the easist thing to do is put your health and well-being on the back burner. Women's sports are on a winning streak, reaching new heights and shattering records. As women's sports thrive in growth, viewers, and support, there still is one major gap: female athletes' health is underserved and underprioritized. While many clubs and organizations recognize the importance of addressing areas like: • Menstrual health • Breast health • Pelvic floor function • Nutrition and disordered eating behaviors • Injury prevention • Fertility and planned parenthood • Pregnancy with players, • Female life stages … they often lacked the resources to build effective frameworks from scratch.\ Supporting female athletes isn’t just a performance advantage—it’s a duty of care.
