In a recent article on Digital Health Insights, author Jennifer Bresnick discusses how CMS is lighting a fire under payers to compete on value with 1upHealth's CSO Donald Rucker. Topics include the power of modern data standards (i.e., FHIR) and CMS-mandated APIs to provide transparency around outcomes and cost (i.e., value). 🔥 Don says in part, “FHIR creates the ability to bring financial and clinical data together in a meaningful way so that we can finally draw back the veil on why we spend the most but have some of the worst outcomes in the world. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently announced the first states to participate in their new #PopulationHealth-focused payment model. The States Advancing All-Payer Health Equity Approaches and Development (AHEAD) Model is a voluntary, state total cost of care (TCOC) model designed to address population health in specific regions, reduce health disparities and lower #healthcare costs. States participating in this model will be responsible for the quality, coordination and cost of healthcare while receiving funding and additional tools to address current payment and equity challenges in their state. 💡 My thoughts: It's exciting to see how we continue evolving our thinking around value and innovation, looking across payers, states and state agencies to push some of these practices forward. Not only that, but the timeline of these models has also been extended from 3 years to 10 years – allowing us a longer period to gather more comprehensive learnings and understand if these interventions are having a true impact. Efforts like these help us more accurately assess if the current work we’re doing is making a difference. I look forward to following the development of this model and seeing how it plays out with the first cohort (Maryland and Vermont) in 2026!

This following Optum news, VillageMD closing in Nevada, Teladoc Health problems, etc. What comes next? This is another in a long line of examples that technology and even consumer willingness are not enough when the reimbursement environment does not support particular care models. Are we getting ready to lose all the lessons painfully learned during the pandemic? Or will new virtual care models emerge following this round of closures?

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Innovation Center has made adjustments to #Oncology #valuebasedcare programs. Here are the key takeaways: 💲 Increased Payments: The Monthly Enhanced Oncology Services (MEOS) payment level has been raised from $70 to $110 per patient per month (PPPM), with a potential maximum reimbursement of $140 PPPM for dually eligible patients—though still below the previous Oncology Care Model (OCM) level of $160. 📅 Extended Timeline: The EOM will now run until June 2030, giving more practices the opportunity to join and adapt to the model. Expanded Participation: New applications will be accepted starting July 2024, with the intent for participants to start in July 2025. ✳ Performance-Based Payments: CMS has revised the threshold for performance-based payments, now requiring practices to meet a risk-adjusted spending target at 100% of the benchmark amount starting January 2025, up from 98%. ❤️ Comprehensive Cancer Care: While the EOM focuses on 7 common cancers, CMS continues to push for high-quality, patient-centered care, including addressing patients' health-related social needs. https://lnkd.in/eBB-UG8Q
