Observation: 9/10 SWE's quit at “reading the docs”. Cut through the BS with this easy trick: Take action and build. Writing code is 100x easier than the docs make it sound. “Reading the docs” gave me crazy imposter syndrome: -Git -WPF -Kafka -OAuth -Angular -GraphQL -RabbitMQ -Kubernetes In ALL cases, I conquered my fears by building. Except for WPF. I gave up on that. And Kafka, that's for another day. Forcing yourself to build/code/deploy melts analysis paralysis. Then you'll say "oh that was pretty easy". Trust me, we aren't building rockets. Practice AND Study build true mastery.

NEW: Internal Threads Internal threads allow you to spin up conversations in Slack from Pylon. It's great when you want to start a conversation with someone, but they primarily use Slack (e.g. engineers, product people or anyone who isn't living out of the support system). Common internal threads we are creating at Pylon: 1/ #bugs to report a potential bug 2/ #project channels to ask a team a question about a specific feature 3/ #feedback to report product feedback to the team It's been one of the most game-changing features we've released and we're so excited to share it with everyone. "You can have a great strategy for the next billion-dollar developer product, but the battle is won in the trenches of daily iterations." I love this clip from Lee Robinson (VP Product, Vercel). Lee helped scale Vercel to 1M+ developers and has some of the clearest thinking of developer marketing that I've read. Making progress on my sprint for Maria Gabriela Ochoa Perez Waechter's YIBL-BAM. On to STRY0006--adding a top level (L1) navigation link to create a new contact. I jumped back into the core UI and dug up tables and got it working, but it turned out it is much easier with a nice UI in the Experience's advanced settings. Typical for me! On STRY0007, I was adding a pre-configured list filter to show me contacts to whom I have not yet out, reached (???). This is the main list of lists you see in the left hand nav and it's very common to want to change these. In the old UI it was a right click and a couple of records, but this one had me scratching my head even though I had done it before. I found my way back to the UX List table, which has more checkboxes than almost any form I have ever seen (Literally 1 Million Checkboxes https://lnkd.in/g9Nv7ivi), but hey, I'm not here to judge. Is there an easier way? Probably, but I couldn't find it so I don't care about an "easier" way, just as long as there is "a" way. When you build design systems for a living, sometimes you get the satisfaction of seeing other engineers building better UIs with maybe a bit more of their sanity left intact. Other times, your CEO goes goblin mode and makes Windows XP and vaporwave skins using your theming system. 😂

Which tool, if any, are you using? Any opinions/pros/cons on the tool you're using (or the entire domain overall)?

Let’s talk about product managers. Are they truly worth their weight in gold? Gagan Biyani shared a fascinating perspective: "If you’re an engineering-driven company like Stripe, where engineers are building products for other engineers, you might not feel the need for a product manager. After all, the builders are also the users. But even in those cases, a good PM can still add value—it just depends on the context." This got me thinking: PMs aren’t always the heroes in every setup. Sometimes, the role feels less critical; other times, it’s indispensable. It all depends on the team, the product, and the company culture. What about you? Have you worked in a place where PMs were crucial—or maybe not needed at all? I’d love to hear your take!

Don’t ask me why, it’s just human behavior. I’m sure you’ve done it when roadworks have taken longer than were specified on the sign, or if a delivery of a package was late. Dates mean something to people, so handle them with care. In fact, perhaps we could do something entirely different instead.” What’s the “something different”? “So, instead, you should take a forecasting approach that follows the uncertainty curve that we outlined above. You start wide, and you taper in. At the beginning of a given project, you might even just have the year that you’re aiming to ship. This is a cool project, and another example of the emerging "replace stateful storage with S3" trend. I do wonder at what point someone will package this sort of thing up into a FUSE filesystem to make it generally usable across existing services.
