DOTAX just published and posted Tax Information Release No. 2024-01, regarding “Proposed Temporary Administrative Rules Relating to Pass-Through Entity Taxation as Enacted by Act 50, Session Laws of Hawaii 2024.” The purpose of this Tax Information Release (TIR) is to provide guidance on changes to the pass-through entity (PTE) tax provided under Act 50, Session Laws of Hawaii 2024 ("2024 Act 50"), and to provide notice of proposed temporary administrative rules relating to the PTE tax and its accompanying credit. This TIR replaces and supersedes TIR 2023-03 (Amended) for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2023.

ASK MICKEY, CPA, CVA At an AICIP conference in Las Vegas recently, I had the privilege of listening to Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 25, 2001. Since then, he has become an inspirational speaker and author known for his profound insights on overcoming adversity and pushing beyond perceived limitations. Here are some of his notable quotes that capture his motivational spirit: 1. "What's within you is stronger than what's in your way." This quote emphasizes the power of inner strength and resilience in overcoming obstacles. 2. "When people ask, 'What's it like to be blind?' I say, 'It's an inconvenience, but it's not a tragedy.'" Weihenmayer redefines disability, focusing on the potential rather than the limitations. 3. "A lot of people think of failure as a step backward, but failure can also be a step forward." This highlights the importance of learning and growing from failures, viewing them as opportunities for progress. 4. "If you don't know your 'why,' you can always find an excuse for giving up."
