Where do Community Banks intersect with Embedded Finance, CFPB 1033, and brokered deposits?   It starts with what's served up in this spicy Breaking Banks roundtable on where BaaS deposits and fintech-bank partnerships and innovation (and potentially consumer choice) could be impacted with the updated FDIC proposal on how brokered deposits are treated.   The podcast really got me thinking; of the 140+ banks who are currently BaaS partner banks (Source: FedFis), nearly all are community banks, who first and foremost serve their own communities. Add in that nearly half of working Americans are employed by small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), and over two thirds of small business owners use a community or regional bank (or credit union). ⚡ Last week, our CEO, David joined other banking executives at the Cedar-IBSi core banking summit to chat about the state of BaaS, embedded finance and the API economy. Here are some takeaways from the conversation: ✨There is increased value in a BaaS provider being a bank due to growing regulatory scrutiny around the world. The layers of non-bank middlemen providers introduce too much risk. ✨Consequently, there is likely going to be more scrutiny around the controls BaaS providers have over their partners. Partners need compliance and the right service guardrails to ensure that good outcomes are being delivered and keep the BaaS provider in good standing with the regulator. ✨In the past, banks and BaaS providers focused on competing on cost at the detriment of customer experience. As we are now seeing a generational shift in consumer expectations, shifting distribution to the point of need of the customer will allow better inclusion and the delivery of the experience that customers now expect. ✨Decentralised identity will improve user experience and make things like proving age, nationality, and credit scores more secure and private. #BaaS #embeddedfinance | IBS Intelligence 💡
