It’s in no way surprising to see organizations like ATACH, (American Trade Association for Cannabis and Hemp) push for the utter destruction of an entire industry by fabricating a nonexistent loophole. That "H" needs to be removed ... at least then it would make sense. As someone deeply entrenched in this fight, I’ve witnessed firsthand the corruption from cannabis giants trying to monopolize the market at the expense of small and minority-owned businesses. This isn’t just about market share; it’s about economic liberty and ensuring that our laws foster true reform and equitable opportunities. Seeing ATACH's actions feels like a betrayal to all the farmers and small business owners who have invested their livelihoods into hemp. However they are not alone in this. US Cannabis Council, Cannabis Regulators Association (CANNRA), HempToday® ... all of these groups and publications are inherently anti-cannabis and nothing more than the muscle for the cannabis cartel. The current definition of hemp allows a diverse range of products to thrive, supporting grain and fiber farmers and offering consumers choices beyond the reach of marijuana monopolies. The push by Mary Miller and marijuana trade associations threatens this balance, jeopardizing jobs, innovation, and consumer freedom. We need to recognize the value of the hemp industry—not just for its economic benefits, but for its potential to drive sustainable agriculture and support a wide array of products that benefit everyone. It’s time to push back against these monopolistic tactics and stand up for the true spirit of economic freedom. I urge everyone involved in the cannabis industry to support the existing definition of hemp and protect the future of our farmers, small businesses, and the diverse array of products they bring to market. Let’s fight for reforms that benefit all, not just a select few.

Florida’s Statewide Stormwater Ratification Bill (SB 7040) was signed into law on June 28, 2024, with nutrient removal performance standards taking effect on December 28, 2025. These codified nutrient removal requirements mean that traditional stormwater systems, in many cases, will no longer solely be able to meet the nutrient requirements for Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphorus (TP).

Test Compensation Changes Before Implementation I talked with someone working in the pest control industry for the last 25 years. He said that the Technicians used to get a low base with commissions that were much higher than they are today. This led to Technicians thinking of themselves as running a business of their own. The faster the service was delivered and with high quality, the better their commissions. Quality led to repeat customers and referrals. The commission percentage was often around 20% of revenue for a service. But today, that is not the case. They get a much lower commission and a low hourly base rate. This has led to less pay for Technicians, and it is not as easy to find qualified candidates today. Once they start the job and realize the true total compensation level, they don’t stay long. I’ll point out the obvious. There are other factors like the number of services expected to be performed each day, the chemical exposure, working outdoors in all types of weather, and dealing with pests of all kinds that contribute to the attraction and retention issues the industry is having. But the pay is also a factor and not a small one. I have seen changes like this across industries and professions over the years and sometimes changes don’t lead to better outcomes. Just because you can does not mean you should. It is often difficult to admit that a compensation change wasn’t the right thing to do and that going back to the former approach may be better. That is why doing a pilot on a work group or two instead of everyone is a good way to test a new compensation approach. I have also seen salespeople grandfathered with higher commission rates than those who are newly hired. Then you have people doing the same job with vastly different total compensation payouts. This can sometimes lead to inequities by gender, race, ethnicity, etc. (If you are an employer, are you checking on this in your pay equity audit?) It is a nightmare for the people who are calculating commissions for the salespeople because there isn’t commission consistency by job title. It varies by employee. Don’t abruptly change the way you pay employees without fully thinking through the unintended outcomes.
