AI coding is a real thing but there's a few lessons learned: 1) If you don't know software, you should try it. It's amazingly useful 2) Anything of any degree of complexity makes it painfully obvious why Google's code standards do not permit try:except blocks. If an LLM's code doesn't work, it'll generally just say to wrap it in a try:except block. This works for small things, but can cause massive issues if you're trying to build something bigger 3) Linus Torvalds is famous for saying (paraphrased) "mediocre engineers care about their code, exceptional engineers care about their data structure". LLM generated code doesn't care about data structure and will often lead you astray. Fantastic tools -- not the end game yet. #ai

Software engineers are becoming obsolete? This 23-year-old scaled an AI app from $0 to $6M/year organically (but used ChatGPT for coding) Blake got the idea for Umax after coming across a trend called "Looksmaxxing" He went through TikTok, IG, and subreddits like /rateme and /roastme where men would ask for feedback on their dating profiles. He found it interesting + the GPT-4 vision API had just come out. He connected the dots by - Walking in the woods - Thinking up the UI/UX + features of the app, - Then implementing the idea using ChatGPT + Figma. How the app works: ➡️ Users upload photos of themselves to the app. ➡️ The app uses AI (GPT Vision) to analyze the photo and provide an overall attractiveness score out of 10. ➡️ It evaluates around 20+ different characteristics related to appearance, such as skin condition, hair styling, jawline definition, etc. ➡️ Based on the analysis, the app provides specific recommendations on how users can improve their appearance, focusing on changeable traits like skincare, hairstyling, grooming, etc., rather than fixed features. ➡️ In addition to the current rating, it provides a "potential score" showing what the user's rating could be if they implemented the suggested improvements. ➡️Users can upload multiple photos over time to track their progress and see how their score changes. Initially, he did influencer marketing for Umax; banking on the audience of GenZ self-improvement influencers who are obsessed with trends like mewing ... In the first month, Umax hit $100K/month $200K/month in second month And now they're doing $500K/month regularly. The quick success was because the app hit a nerve — people are really desperate to get feedback on their dating pics. With AI, you get instant feedback! The most surprising fact to me is he didn't know coding much. Just used ChatGPT to create 80%+ of the codebase, which is completely insane! Now he's creating another app called Cal AI to track calories using AI. He'll hit $10M in the next 12 months, which is again insane. AI SaaS apps are popping off. Key lesson from his story: Focus on rapid iteration and testing when creating a consumer app, rather than spending too much time on perfection. And use ChatGPT for coding! You can tell early on if a dev agency will act in your best interests. Some agencies aim to hook you and create dependency by: - Withholding admin access to GitHub repos - Limiting direct communication with the dev team - Failing to document work for future developers These are red flags that will harm your business. When we begin a project, we focus on building a strong relationship from the start. How? Instead of chasing a quick profit or locking the client into an endless engagement, we’ll start with a narrower scope that still delivers value. If a dev agency acts against its own short-term interests, it’s a positive sign. I’d rather leave money on the table in the interest of building trust.

"I think this year probably in 2025, we at Meta as well as the other companies that are basically working on this, are going to have an AI that can effectively be a sort of midlevel engineer that you have at your company that can write code" These systems would be initially expensive to run but eventually get efficient & Eventually, much of the code in apps and AI systems will be written by AI engineers rather than human engineers. Mark uses an analogy of his daughter playing legos (limited) & then going to Minecraft to create unbelievable things. When asked about Layoffs he drew parallels from history, how majority were farmers & now it only comprises of 2% of people but there's still enough food. So this will create new creative & cultural jobs w/ people having to work less hours for basic needs.

Anthropic released a new Claude model today, Sonnet 3.5. There were a bunch of new features. One of which was enhanced code generation and code preview. Using the following prompts I had it build an "AI" powered checkers game. · "create a react app that plays checkers" · "add jumping rules to the game” · "Add the ability to jump a second piece if a first piece is jumped” · "Add all the features you think are needed to complete the game" · "Only allow a move after a jump if there is another jump"   I will post a link to the try it out in the first comment.

I made my first online sale 1,484 days ago. A humble $4.99 on the Unreal Engine Marketplace. Little did I know it would spark my obsession with business. Fast forward to December 29, 2024. I just validated a test and earned $4.20 USD from a similar product. But this time, it’s outside the marketplace. Why leave the marketplace after almost four years, thousands of dollars in revenue, and over 100 customers for my Chess Game Creator Template? Because my eyes opened. I assumed the marketplace was doing me a favor by showcasing my product, letting me focus on what I do best—building systems for creatives. But I realized I was doing the marketplace a favor too, by providing interesting content for their audience. Sounds like an ideal partnership, right? Wrong! It didn’t feel like a partnership. And many other creators felt the same—especially after Unreal Marketplace’s transition to FAB. It began to feel like an underpaid job: sell cheap, provide endless free support, and no real business tools. Your asset is just a commodity, competing with thousands of others. You can’t see who’s viewing it or retarget interested people. You only know the number of sales and the price. No way to follow up via email and provide extra value. You hope buyers join your Discord or Facebook community. That’s not how a partnership should look—it’s more like a service contract or employer-employee deal. My cousin told me once, “Don’t put your eagle in duck school!” So, I took my eagle out of duck school and equipped it to fly. No more pretending to be a swimmer when I’m built to soar. I wonder why the world is so hyper focused on the US and it’s progress on artificial intelligence while China is winning the race by large margins. Tesla’s tech event yesterday are tech that has been running efficiently in China for almost a year now. China literally just built the first road in the world where all of the equipments used were unmanned. The thought of that alone and what’s possible is scary. That’s how you replicate development at scale.

This is a Multiview renderer that I built for a generative AI startup so they can use this to train and finetune their 3D diffusion models. This script written in Python runs in a headless blender setup and can load a scraped 3D asset from a cloud storage (like AWS S3), normalize & prep the model, setup the given lighting config & custom camera position ranges, and render out multiple images from different angles along with camera information. Each of the Nvidia boxes below have 8 H100 GPUs and sell for $400,000 a piece. So total $3.2Million of upfront investment, probably 3-6 weeks of waiting and insane datacenter costs (real estate, electricity, cooling and manpower) Why not just rent them on GPU.net at $2/GPU/hour?
