10 Years Ago, pioneers like SS&C Blue Prism, UiPath, Automation Anywhere, and NICE declared that 𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗥 was the future of work. To be fair, some of them spelled it 'Labour'. And now, it's literally ALL that Silicon Valley can talk about. The first wave of Digital Labor was just as inspired. Just as important. Just as innovative. But, it didn't have the computational power of LLMs. Nor, the investment backing of Sand Hill Road. But, the foundation it set down was critical to what is about to happen over the next 3-5 years. The issue is, if you're part of the group that was psyched out of their minds about NFTs, Crypto, Blockchain, and the metaverse only a few news cycles ago, you were NOT in the operational trenches helping enterprises incorporate Digital Labor into how they get work done. So, all of the feverish new entrants into the Digital Labor and #Agentics space would be wise to find a grizzled old expert who lived in those trenches for a decade. There is a LOT the new entrants don't appreciate about how hard it is to automate, emulate, and supercharge people in enterprises. Enterprises are intensely complex environments - both from an architecture and a culture perspective. Just because you have AI Agents doesn't mean you have a right to win, nor a winning formula. You just have the next shiny thing to pitch. Digital Labor is, no doubt, the future. But, you'd be wise to take lessons from the past if you want any hope of being successful in this next round. Everyone keeps sharing/talking about these Generic Slogans. They not only are meaningless they actually give wrong advice. Intense heat and pressure under Earth’s mantle create Diamonds. The same heat and pressure also create coal. Diamonds are rare. Because of impurities coal is most probably outcome. The message that pressure is good because it will make you a diamond is completely misleading. Your effort and purity of intent are the deciding factors; not the pressure; whether you become coal or diamond. P. S. Same thing is true with Grapes as well.
