I occasionally like to scan through the PE subreddit to keep a pulse on what early career fund managers and others looking to break into the industry are talking about. Recently, I found a question asking if it’s possible to achieve a healthy work/life balance and realized I haven’t said a lot here on the topic. In private equity, the demands are high, especially for those starting out. That means long hours, weekend work, and constant travel are common—making burnout seemingly inevitable. However, here are some ways that I’ve been able to keep that burnout at arm’s length over the years: - Establish clear work hours and communicate with your team to ensure mutual respect for personal time. - Prioritize high-impact activities and delegate when you can. - Remember to take care of your physical and mental health. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep are non-negotiable. Personally, I favor ice or street hockey to stay fit. - Make time for family and friends to maintain a support system. Nurturing these relationships provides emotional support and helps maintain a sense of normalcy outside of work. - Find ways to give back—you would be amazed at how great it feels to help others who may not have the same options or opportunities you do. Through the Frank Family Foundation, I established as a teen entrepreneur, my mom and I work together to determine which nonprofit organizations to support. We take the time to meet with those in need so we can understand how best we can help. Remember, your career is a marathon, not a sprint. A PE buyout fund usually has a lifespan of 10 years and can extend for up to 2 years. The rationale is they need time to create more value for the assets. AKA increase the exit price. Good assets typically trade in a 5 year window. The funds with vintage years from 2015-2020 are now either pass or passing that 5 year mark. They need to exit. But what if the assets still left in these funds are not ready to sell? There is the dilemma. LPs want their capital back but GPs know if they exit these poor-performing assets then the returns of the fund will drop like a rock. Fundraising their next fund will be a challenge due to past performance

The labor market may be more resilient than you think. • The Kansas City Fed publishes a labor market momentum indicator using a weighted average of 24 labor market variables (unemployment rate, employment-to-population ratio, part-time jobs, job losers, open jobs, nonfarm payroll, labor force participation, announced job cuts, etc.), intended to provide a marker for the direction of travel in the broader labor market. • A positive value indicates that labor market conditions are above long-term average, while a negative value indicates market conditions below average. • The indicator hasn’t made a break for a meaningful negative print, which would be a recession indicator. Historically, it has given us about 2-4 quarters of notice prior to a recession.

It is reported that the developer is seeking additional capital, and is looking to renegotiate the loan. Other details: - The $564mm project was developed from 2018-2021. - The luxury condos are currently being marketed for ~$1,500 psf with price ranges between $7-10mm - The project is the redevelopment of the former NoLa World Trade Center -The project sought to improve the riverfront and attract capital to the city in the decade after Katrina - It appears that the project is on a ground-lease - It appears that EB-5 capital was also involved with financing the project - 33 condo units remain unsold - representing approximately half of the residential space; Asking prices are more than double the market average Source: Nola

Applications for adult use will be online by this Friday, June 7th. 2. $500mm medical market we expect to at least triple when it flips adult use. 3. 124 medical stores are open, and the 43 MSO-owned doors account for 35% of the market. 4. Green Thumb Industries (GTI), Cresco Labs, Cannabist, and Acreage Holdings have the five-store max and a tier-one grow, allowing them to open three more doors. 5. Looking at stores/enterprise value, Vext Science ranks 3x higher than anyone else—four doors and T1 grow—which allows them to add three more stores for seven doors total and a $68mm enterprise value.

Why don’t we have a #law requiring ALL elected and appointed public officials to hold their invested assets in blind trusts? As an #advisor who’s managed assets in blind trusts, I can attest that the #investor maintains control over the mandates (examples: #risk tolerance, #income targets, etc.) without needing to see the underlying positions or request specific #trades. The investor continues to receive reports and access to the #performance and composition, with the underlying positions removed.
