  • Preparing undergraduate and graduate students for semi-structured interview sessions with academic library staff post-flood disaster

    The Journal of Academic Librarianship

A list of the essential topics about post-flood disaster inside academic libraries would help academic library staff better prepare students for semi-structured interviews with staff. An online survey questionnaire was distributed to academic library staff. 517 academic library staff responded to the topic questions. They found all the topics essential for students to learn prior to interview sessions with staff. However, four job roles exhibited statistically significant differences in their…

However, four job roles exhibited statistically significant differences in their rankings (p < .05). Academic library staff should work together to provide resources on these topics to better prepare students for interview sessions with staff following a post-flood disaster inside a library.

  • Interpreting Worker Responses to Questions About Pack Out Books in Gender Integrated and Non-Gender Integrated Work Environments Inside Library

    Available at SSRN 3469271

The work environment can be gender integrated or non-gender integrated, while males and females pack out books inside a library. 42 men and 36 women were interviewed to determine their feelings about gender integrated and non-gender integrated work environments, in which, males and females pack out books inside a library. Their responses were coded, using the Coding Rubric for Expectancy Violation. The results indicated significant relationships between sex and expectancy violation for the…

Their responses were coded, using the Coding Rubric for Expectancy Violation. The results indicated significant relationships between sex and expectancy violation for the three work environments: (a) male only, (b) female only, and (c) both males and females. When male and female workers pack out books inside a library, men and women favor masculine/masculinity traits in a non-gender integrated work environment, but men and women do not favor either feminine/femininity or masculine/masculinity traits in a gender integrated work environment.

  • Determining Differences Between Archival Staff and Restorers Ranking of Training Topics for Disaster Restoration Projects

    Collection Management

In the pursuit of new and actionable knowledge, the author conducted fieldwork in New Orleans four years following Hurricane Katrina. Since archival staff and restorers can be involved in moderate to major catastrophic disasters in archival institutions, differences in priorities between archival staff and restorers provide insight into each group's procedural preferences for ranking training topics. When 185 archival staff and 52 restorer respondents ranked training topics for importance…

Since archival staff and restorers can be involved in moderate to major catastrophic disasters in archival institutions, differences in priorities between archival staff and restorers provide insight into each group's procedural preferences for ranking training topics. When 185 archival staff and 52 restorer respondents ranked training topics for importance, statistically significant differences were exhibited in five out of twenty-one training topics (α = .05). Since both groups have different job-specific skills, there exist reasons for differences in training topic rankings.
