What is it like to witness a health tech startup grow from seed stage to a $72M Series C? I joined Two Chairs as a founding team member in 2017. We had no clinic, no clinicians, and no clients. Just 4 people in a co-working space dreaming big. Not all mental health tech companies are made equal. This one was made different. Two Chairs was made with a keen eye towards both the client AND the therapist experience. Across the years, I feel most proud of the therapists who have brought the company to where it is today. - I think of Nathan Greene, Psy.D. who wrote Two Chairs’ first ever clinic manual because he wanted all clinicians to have a seamless transition into their role at the company - I think of Anna Sapozhnikova, Ph.D. and Hannah Klempner, PsyD who designed and scaled the matching model to ensure clinicians and clients had excellent experiences in care - I think of Nassim Bickham, LMFT who successfully secured APA accreditation for clinicians’ continuing education. - I think of Namrata Doshi who challenged me to reconsider how we think about clinician utilization - I think of every one of our clinical directors who built the clinical care foundation while we scaled - I think of Nick Forand, PhD, ABPP who is leading a team focused on enhancing clinical innovation - I think of Colleen Marshall who is working day in and day out to create the best clinician culture across a nationwide team Two Chairs is different because it was designed by therapists. My latest for Forbes: OpenAI’s latest venture, #SearchGPT, and its impact on healthcare I take a look at the differences between & progress made from #ChatGPT, which is one of the most widely used consumer platforms. However, the internet search “game” is still largely dominated by industry veterans— especially Google, which has optimized this arena for nearly two decades. Microsoft’s Bing has also grown its market share. As for healthcare, there are a lot of potential opportunities— and with them, numerous risks. Whether this will be a blessing or a burden will largely be dependent on the privacy, safety and accuracy measures put into place. Generative AI in Action: Data-Driven Insights from a Hospital Rollout NYU Langone has been testing the capabilities of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) using a HIPAA-compliant ChatGPT (Azure GPT-3.5) and just published real-world usage and cost data. It's informative to look closely at who was most likely to use AI (clinicians and researchers), and the manager/non-manager perspectives on the tool and its implications for skill development and productivity. Here’s a quick snapshot of the findings: Adoption: Out of 40,000 staff, 2.5% signed up, and weekly active users averaged just 60 people. Interest was high, but sustained engagement was a challenge. Usage Patterns: Popular tasks included writing, editing, summarizing, data analysis, and brainstorming—most used by research, clinical, and IT teams. Costs: Over six months, the platform processed 112M tokens for just $4,200, proving cost-effective. User Feedback: Users rated their experience at 7.4/10 but highlighted challenges like crafting prompts, managing token limits, and occasional AI inaccuracies (“hallucinations”). "KFF reports published in 2020 and 2021 reviewed more than 600 studies and concluded that expansion is linked to gains in coverage, improvement in access and health, and economic benefits for states and providers." Should we believe that expansion did all 4? 1 out of 4 may be it as far as coverage, access, health, and economic benefit for most Americans most behind - the ones ignored for 40 years of designs. Coverage is it. Improvement in health was claimed? Really? - How can you end up with improvements in health since most Americans continue to decline across numerous outcome measures? What about 80% of outcomes shaped outside of clinical interventions? There are no increasing investments in people, particularly age 0 - 8 to improve outcomes the only way possible - by changing the population generation to generation. Improvements in access? - Access to care is completely disconnected from health insurance in this nation. Health insurance coverage differences shape and maintain half enough basic health access workforce for 40% of the nation. Coverage barriers and lack of acceptance of Medicaid and other worst quality health insurance plans makes this a higher proportion. There are direct barriers and vast regions where there half the workforce needed and even lower levels of delivery team members The biggest access problem in the United States has always been where the public plans paying 65 - 85% of cost of delivery are concentrated along with the weakest employers, often in the weakest states that shape and tolerate the worst public and private plans. In 2621 counties the expansions of worst paying plans only make the problem worse. They need better paying plans that pay 150 - 200% of Medicare rates to overcome the concentrations of elderly, poor, disabled, and worst public plans. Even worse, health care and education and government jobs are being cut and centralized away from these counties - with loss of better paying plans and losses of local leaders in health and other key areas. Expansion was not targeted to this 40% of the nation that had 40 - 41% of the population, the uninsured, and the unemployed. Their problem has always been worst quality worst paying insurance shaping half enough of each basic health access specialty and even lower levels of more specialized care. This paper examines the ability of LLMs to predict neuroscience research outcomes, surpassing human experts in accuracy. 1️⃣ The authors introduced BrainBench, a benchmark for evaluating LLMs’ performance on predicting experimental results in neuroscience. 2️⃣ LLMs outperformed human experts, achieving 81.4% accuracy compared to 63.4%, across multiple neuroscience subfields. 3️⃣ Models such as BrainGPT, fine-tuned on neuroscience literature, demonstrated further improvements in predictive accuracy. 4️⃣ LLMs effectively integrated information across study abstracts, using background and methodological context to enhance predictions. 5️⃣ Evaluations confirmed that LLMs’ success was due to generalization from patterns in the data, not memorization of training content. 6️⃣ Fine-tuning methods like LoRA enabled efficient specialization of general-purpose LLMs for neuroscience tasks, with performance boosts. 7️⃣ Both LLMs and humans exhibited well-calibrated confidence, where higher confidence correlated with higher prediction accuracy. 8️⃣ The study highlights the potential for LLMs to transform scientific research by assisting in hypothesis generation and experimental design. ✍🏻 Xiaoliang L., Akilles Rechardt, Guangzhi Sun, Kevin K. Dr. Jeffrey Funk Christopher Birkinbine adding to your points, the reason for this hype is that these developers think of healthcare like aeronautics or aviation, whereby all the laws of physics apply, and it is much easier to automate everything. Well, news flash: caring for a human being follows many laws of physics, biology, and emotional and social laws, add healthcare access and discrimination that are all intertwined and sometimes contradictory from person to person. So, while a chat GPT prompt will save patient A, the same prompt output will send patient B to an early grave, yet they have the same health issue. Some folks with Asthma get an attack when they are exposed to pollen or dust, while I also have a patient who can sleep in a dusty storm in the Sahara desert without problems; however, she gets a severe asthma attack only whenever she is upset with her boyfriend. Any time she comes into the clinic for Asthma, I immediately know it; she is going through an emotional exertion like a breakup. A GPT prompt will recommend regular Asthma treatment for both patients, while I will recommend that plus psychotherapy if she needs it. Otherwise, the Asthma will linger in her, while GPT will be a savior in the other patients with typical Asthma. It is the same disease but with different path. THis is just one of the simplest examples I can come up with on the fly.
