After a great evening facilitating the Climate Fresk USA at the Consulate of France in New York, I am happy to do it again for all Audencia Alumni next Tuesday for our #AudenciaAroundTheWorld event! 🗽 What is the Climate Fresk? The Climate Fresk is based on a deck of 42 cards taken from the IPCC's scientific reports. It is a fun and collaborative way of raising awareness about climate issues. Climate Fresk is a powerful tool for providing quality climate education. It is accessible to anyone and can be scaled quickly within an organization or community. Why would I join? To learn, understand, take action, build solutions, and be part of this change that is urgently needed, we first need to understand the problem.  You don't need to be an expert but we need you and your brain to activate the group’s collective intelligence.  You will take an active role in the building-up of the Fresk, and link the causes and effects of climate change, to take a step back and understand the systemic nature of the challenges. How does it work?  In just 3 hours, the collaborative Climate Fresk workshop will teach you the fundamental science behind climate change and empower you to take action. It brings together participants and calls on their creativity and collective intelligence to reconstruct the links between the various components of climate change, understand what we are talking about and initiate changes in behavior or attitudes.  A facilitator supervises the teams to guide them through the workshop, ensures good communication between members, and provides additional explanations. I’ve been advising my clients of this for a long time. SAFES are a great tool to use - once. Don’t get enamoured with them without thinking more thoroughly about the alternatives! Also, since we’re on the topics of SAFEs, their evolution has gone something like this: Startup community: we need a simple security to quickly and easily raise money without racking up legal fees and without having to agree on a valuation since setting a valuation at this stage is too difficult and arbitrary and moving quickly is to everyone’s benefit here. YC: how about this SAFE? It’s super simple, no valuation and the investors will get a 20% discount on the next round for taking risk coming in early. Founders and investors: this is awesome! It’s very simple and everyone is happy! The rest of the terms don’t matter until our priced round. VCs a couple years later: yeah this is great, but you know what would be better? Let’s add a valuation cap and here’s my 10 page side letter with board rights, prorata rights, negative covenants, transfer restrictions, etc. Founders: umm but now we have to agree on valuation and negotiate all these terms? VCs: no, no - it’s called a SAFE so it’s fine. 😂😂😂

If you know an 18 yo who dream of creating a deep tech startup, they could go to a big natural sciences' university. Or… …go to a small(ish) stand alone business school🏫 Les Deeptech 🚀 from Bpifrance just released their latest analysis for #French #Deeptech, which gives us an interesting overview of the local higher education scene. Sure, HEC Paris - Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute is ranked #4 in that list (and we are happy about it), but that’s not the really interesting part. What you should pay attention to is that we are not an anomaly. Among the top 15 listed universities, one-third are business schools! It does feel like getting a business education could bring value to science-based entrepreneurship… But what do I know? 🤷‍♂️ What we do know is that investing in research and education keeps paying dividends. This is the vision that drives the Nfinite teams, and I had the pleasure of sharing it with Lionel Lemoine, Head of Solution Consulting Western EMEA at Adobe, in a   interview organized by Maddyness with Lila Meghraoua. Flinks co-founders Frédérick Lavoie and Yves-Gabriel Leboeuf, along with Flinks alumni Bruno Lambert and Julien Belisle, have launched a new start-up called Deck. The company just raised 4.5 million USD from a handful of VCs and previous Flinks investors including Golden Ventures, Better Tomorrow Ventures and Luge Capital. Their previous venture, Flinks, is a provider of bank account data similar to Plaid, but focused on the Canadian market. It was sold to National Bank of Canada for 150 million CAD in 2021. Like Flinks, Deck use screen scraping to access customer data, but will go beyond banking to include utilities like electricity, telecom, and gas accounts. In a LinkedIn post, CEO Frédérick Lavoie explained Deck's mission: "We’re building the global infrastructure for user-permissioned data, unlocking a new era of personalized, secure, and innovative applications."
