MIT Sloan professor David G. Rand and other researchers outlined two goals for labels: communicating whether a piece of content was created or edited using AI, and diminishing the likelihood that content misleads or deceives its viewers. They found that under certain conditions, labeling can decrease individuals’ likelihood of believing or engaging with misleading AI-generated images.

Curated by MING Labs, its a collection of use cases across industries and enterprises globally. Super helpful for getting a sense of where the action is – where companies are allocating capital for Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and full-scale production deployments. Going through it makes you think, • Defining use cases and understanding business impact should be prioritized • GenAI vs other AI/ML approaches - GenAI is powerful, but it's not a silver bullet. Consider alternative solutions and approaches that might be even better suited for your needs. • Weigh the cost-benefit analysis when considering a generative AI approach These could probably help clear a lot of clutter around the hype and help distill practical and effective GenAI usecases.

Announcing the first of four blog posts written by Barrett and Greene Inc. in collaboration with the IBM Center for The Business of Government, based on a gathering of 30 experts in its “Ensuring Responsible AI for Society” Roundtable. The discussion covered ways AI can be implemented ethically and responsibly, and provided an overview of how government uses AI for good outcomes today, and where the technology might be heading in the future. The first installment covers the "Benefits" of AI. Subsequently we'll be covering the challenges to its use and some solutions to those challenges. Some key take-aways here: * Data suggests that AI is associated with more productive workers, and with work of higher quality. * A substantially greater number of business managers anticipate decreases in the number of jobs compared to those who anticipate increases. * AI could serve as a leveling force but higher-skilled workers are still maintaining their relatively dominant position in the organizational hierarchy.

Hundreds of billions of 💶 💴 - not just tens. How to think of the monumental AI infrastructure build underway, as guided by Jensen Huang: Intelligence is the ability to solve problems. And generative AI has turned intelligence into a commodity. A commodity that can be mass produced by "AI factories": next-generation data centers. "𝗔𝗜 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲” 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗴 Once we have a lot of this new commodity, we can apply it. To solve problems of every type. At the moment, GPT-4 is roughly equivalent to a smart high schooler. Sometime over the next 5 years, it will likely reach the equivalent of a PhD engineer. At that point, it will be able to solve its own problems. And knowledge work will be transformed. But reaching that scale of intelligence production requires a vast new infrastructure. This includes data centers, energy capacity and transmission with turbines and generators, and semiconductor manufacturing. Which is why Sam Altman is aligning with state, federal, and international governments - as well as major sources of capital - on the next iteration of AI infrastructure. Some call it a bubble, and that's fine. It may be in the short term. But the people working on this are the leading entrepreneurs of our generation: Zuck, Brin, Gates, Musk, Altman — all of them and many more. Big bet to say they're wrong.

The #ModelOpennessFramework (MoF) provides a process for data scientists to evaluate and classify the completeness and openness of ML model artifacts across the development process. After models are evaluated, they are classified as Open Source, Open Data or Open Science. The recent Poynter Institute summit highlights the urgent need for more hackathons in journalism. Co-facilitated with Kelly McBride, Alex Mahadevan, Tony Elkins from Poynter alongside Burt Herman and myself representing Hacks/Hackers, this event showcased the transformative potential of collaborative innovation. By convening over 50 diverse participants - including news editors, futurists, and product leaders - the summit exemplified how collective creativity can reshape our information ecosystems. This gathering not only produced innovative ideas but also underscored the value of cross-disciplinary collaboration in addressing the complex challenges facing modern journalism. The summit challenged participants to think creatively about #AI applications in #journalism while maintaining ethical standards and addressing audience concerns. Six teams developed theoretical products ranging from local election tools to personalized news delivery systems, with one team even pursuing funding to turn their AI-powered community calendar into a real product. This experience highlights why we need to break out of our walled gardens to truly transform journalism. We must bring together diverse voices - journalists, technologists, community leaders, artists, and imagineers - so that we can co-create a vision for a thriving information ecosystem. These #hackathons serve as catalysts for creativity, fostering an environment where imagination flourishes, dialogue thrives, experimentation is encouraged, and rapid prototyping becomes possible. They generate innovative ideas that might otherwise remain dormant within the constraints of traditional organizational structures. The success of this summit proves that when we combine diverse expertise and perspectives, we can develop solutions that honor journalistic traditions while embracing the future.

From cryptocurrency mining to cybersecurity, from drug discovery to climate modeling, quantum computing promises to solve problems that have long been considered intractable. The Mining Revolution In the world of cryptocurrency, quantum computing could be the next big disruptor. Bitcoin mining, currently dominated by specialized ASIC hardware, may soon see a quantum advantage. Algorithms like Grover's could theoretically increase mining efficiency quadratically, potentially rendering current mining rigs obsolete. While this doesn't necessarily mean faster block times, it could dramatically shift who can mine profitably. Australia's recent billion-dollar investment in PsiQuantum underscores the high stakes involved. Meanwhile, companies like Google, IBM, and Microsoft are pushing the boundaries of what's possible with quantum technology. Quantum Impact on Urban Development The quantum revolution isn't just happening in labs; it's reshaping our cities. In Chicago, plans are underway to transform the former U.S. Steel South Works site into the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park. This 128-acre development promises to bring high-tech jobs and innovation to an area that has seen little investment for decades. The Quantum-AI Synergy The intersection of quantum computing and AI is particularly exciting. Quantum machine learning algorithms could potentially process vast amounts of data much faster than classical computers, leading to breakthroughs in pattern recognition, optimization problems, and predictive modeling. Preparing for a Quantum Future As quantum technology advances, organizations need to start preparing now.
