This is definitely worthwhile a repost. What is crucial about a next gen #ERP is the foundation. Not only due to the Cloud architecture and the cost benefits for customers based on truly shared infra and services, but even more because being ready to ride the wave of AI that is based on this mainstream foundation. AI for apps, of course, but also AI for app engineering productivity and speed of innovation. There is only one app-specific change in the last decades that comes into my mind: the subscription business model and its rev rec implications. ⏳🏢 ⏳🏢 ⏳ EPM/CPM 10 years ago -- what has changed? ⏳🏢 ⏳🏢 ⏳ I found an article "Demystifying Enterprise Performance Management for CFOs" that was published over 10 years ago and clicked on it to see what has changed. Here are some of the main points of this interview: 1. A great definition of Enterprise/Corporate Performance Management: "Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) is not a new thing that people have to learn. Rather, it’s the integration of existing managerial methods they’re already familiar with, such as strategy maps, balanced-score cards, customer profitability, using activity-based costing principles, driver-based budgeting and so forth." -- Gary Cokins 2. The drivers behind EPM/CPM adoption 10 years ago (start listening at minute 0:49). According to this interview: a) EPM supports strategy execution b) EPM goes deeper than merely reporting profitability and standard service lines c) EPM can facilitate things such as rolling forecast (vs annual budgeting) 3. The importance of determining where to start when implementing an EPM. a. If the company needs performance measurements, prioritize strategy b. If the org needs where it makes/loses money, prioritize activity based costing c. If the org needs to move to rolling forecasts, prioritize driver based methodology It's a short but informative read.
