One of the things I’m proudest of in #IT at University of Maryland Medical System is our governance model.   It used to be (“in the old days”) that projects and proposals could get green-lit with a nod from the right combination of executives. It might have been faster and maybe some of the decisions were even the right ones. But it was not the right way to make decisions.   We’ve found that by making any project of significance go through the same rigorous process where a lot of knowledgeable eyes (not just IT eyes either) sign off on the work and the resources needed, we’re getting better decisions on what work IT does.    It’s not a giant bureaucracy, but it’s definitely a process. And it’s the least bad process I think you could have if you don’t want one or two people just making all the decisions for a large health system in isolation. #Governance #DecisionMaking #HealthcareTech
