From cancer research to wide-scale COVID modeling, my colleague Jessica Lamb’s career has been anything but linear. As I learned in a recent conversation with her, it’s this winding, exploratory nature that has made it so rewarding.   Starting at McKinsey as a business analyst in 2008, Jessica expected her time at the company to be brief. But this 21-month contract soon led her on a path to an unexpected love for healthcare and analytics—and (fortunately!) she’s been with us ever since.   Not long after her curiosity for advanced analytics was piqued, we acquired QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, enabling Jessica a unique opportunity to carve her career at the cutting edge of where healthcare and AI intersect.   I was fascinated to hear how her day-to-day role transformed overnight during COVID. As she shared her experience, I was stunned by her agility, shifting from a traditional client-facing role to becoming the face of the scenario-simulating model she helped build, all while navigating her new role at home as a mom.   As a parent myself, her response to whether she had any passions outside of work felt all too relatable: “People talk about these hobbies. I respond with, 'When do you do that?' I have a four-year-old son. So he is my hobby. He’s awesome; both gifted and autistic. I spend a lot of my time just fascinated by how awesomely his brain works and trying to figure out how to best engage with him on things.”   When I asked about her experience at QuantumBlack, Jessica was quick to share her pride in being part of the team.   “It’s been great. It’s a good vibe with a very creative atmosphere and amazingly talented people. Honestly, it’s a little more casual which I think has somewhat filtered through to the rest of the firm. I like how exploratory it is and the nature of wanting to truly get under things.”   #McKinseySpotlight

As 2025 kicks off, I am keeping an eye on the key themes emerging for CPG firms navigating a dynamic market landscape. Despite some lingering economic headwinds - such as a potential rebound in inflation in some markets, slower-than-expected interest rate cuts, and geopolitical uncertainties - I believe 2025 holds potential for higher growth vs 2024, driven by strategic focal points, such as: 1️⃣ Targeted Innovation – Demonstrating alignment with (local/regional) consumer values will push brands in 2025 to innovate beyond the "typical" sustainability and wellness claims as done in previous years 2️⃣ Digital Transformation – In 2024, CPG firms made significant investments in AI, data analytics, and e-commerce capabilities to enhance operational efficiencies. In 2025, we’ll start to witness the effectiveness of these investments or whether firms will need to reassess their AI and cost-optimization strategies 3️⃣ Resilience & Agility – Since the COVID-19 crisis, firms have focused on building more flexible supply chains, pricing strategies, and cost management systems. Despite ongoing challenges, 2025 offers a clearer landscape compared to 2024, providing a better environment for assessing and executing investments. First time funds will raise “unheard of” amounts of capital to fuel next gen deep tech startups - producing outsized, superior returns for LP’s compared to the rest. Prudent investors will act on this data and shift investment strategy as LP’s or risk being left behind savvy wealth managers and CIO’s / FO’s who saw this trend begin 4 years ago.

Though it was too early for us to join their journey at that time (pre Oraseya), I made a strong mental note: there was something remarkable about this team—Stefano Fallaha, Ramzi Farah, Mario Hayek, and Anthony Essaye. They were onto something. Since then, Stefano and I have stayed in regular touch, exchanging thoughts on both the challenges and opportunities that came their way. Leading up to this round, our long voice notes became “mini-podcasts,” as he likes to call them—dedication in his DNA. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll release some of them on Podeo. What’s impressed us most about Podeo is their ability to adapt quickly, execute swiftly, drive product development, and always keep their focus on the goal—empowering creators. That kind of discipline is rare, and it is striking to see it firsthand.
