What do you do with your private practice when you move into the weekend? Here's what I think can help! It's too easy for a small business owner to work through the weekend or try not to but still think about your business non stop. So what do you do? Something that's helped me truly put work away when I want to be with family, have down time, etc. is BRAIN DUMP at the end of the week. All the things that are on your mind and you don't want to lose track of. A list of reminders, thoughts, worries, ideas, etc. Are there any that truly can't wait? Do them ASAP OR make a plan for them and then put the list away until Monday. This helps me reduce anxiety about forgetting something or leaving something to chance. It gives me a place to pick back up on Monday and allows me to breath easier while I'm focusing on family, fun, home projects, etc. Entrepreneurship can be heavily taxing and stressful. If we keep boundaries around it, set goals, make strategic plans and pivot as we need to, we can succeed! BUT no down time or time to focus on life and what matters to us outside of business, will likely lead us to burnout. Make room for life. That way when you step back into your business, you have more to give to it. How do you measure success as an solo entrepreneur of a CPA firm? Is it sales? Number of hours worked? Net profit? Number of speaking engagements? I'll measure all these. Last year I received multiple gift baskets, cards, and candy from clients. Those clients are great to work with because they appreciate the value of services past the invoice. It makes the job more fun. Is it a bad idea thinking about measuring that as a key performance indicator?
