Brent Gleeson at Forbes suggests “Before you can lead others with purpose, you need to articulate what drives you to be your best every day. Define and reflect on your core values by identifying what matters most to you, whether it’s integrity, innovation, social responsibility, or collaboration." It's simple, effective, yet quite rare. We often get caught up in the day-to-day and lose sight of what truly motivates us. Does that sound familiar? So recently I saw an article praising the supply chain leadership of a local hospital. They were bragging about their ERP and how much money they have saved with their GPO/distributor. 🤣 The revisionist History of it all. Y’all are really out here doing the very most. First off the former leadership bought that ERP without a supply chain and contracting modules and after go live had to go back to paper recs and went on credit hold with their suppliers. That conveniently didn’t make it into the article. And as snarky as I am about to be kudos to this new team for finally getting this ERP’s procurement module to work after 5 very long years. Because what that new team walked into was an absolute mess, but it also wasn’t all the former supply chain team’s fault. Ok now back to full blown snarkiness. 🤣 So the second part of the article was talking about how much money they have saved the system. Can you still call it cost savings if your supply chain team just stops stocking medical supplies and just outsource everything? Because that’s actually what this leadership does. They outsourced their anesthesia folks which is why my family member had to wait 4 days in their facility for surgery because it would have been two weeks wait for outpatient. Why because anesthesia folks only worked until 5pm every day in a level 1 trauma center. Didn’t know you could schedule trauma but ok learn something new every day. 🙄 But this same hospital released another family member this spring with out the pediatric crutches they needed and was like good luck kid, may the odds forever be in your favor. And listen thank God for Amazon and the “Momma Nerwork” and absolutely no thanks to this supply chain team. For once I can’t even drag their distributor (my former employer) because when I called my former teammate, she was more helpful than the hospital was, and distributors only stock what is bought from them. 🤷🏼‍♀️ And, for future reference don’t you dare question this hospital’s supply chain team about anything, because their VP’s will just use LinkedIn DM’s to threaten you with the whole “you don’t know who I know” nonsense. Getting care in facilities ran like this is truly like the hunger games these days, and then people wonder why hospitals are always doing hiring fairs. 🙄

As a leader, I take my role very seriously with the knowledge that I can have a huge impact on my teams and their workplace experience. That's why these numbers from HR Today are so staggering. The publication reports that “61% of employees who are considering leaving their jobs cite poor internal communication as a factor, with 26% naming it a major cause. Alarmingly, 49% of managers admit they don’t know their company’s goals, underscoring widespread communication breakdowns.” I want to be a leader that facilitates communication and inspires employees with goal-oriented messaging. Allow me to share a thought with you all. I'd like to think that we all are in agreement to have a work life balance and a healthy work environment. Which is easier said than done depending on the type of business and or department. How do you effectively promote work life balance in a 24/7 work environment with staff shortages and how does it start? Does it start from leadership down to staff or from staff to leadership?

Don’t let your greatest strength become your downfall! Tony Martignetti explains how “the traits that make outlier leaders exceptional problem solvers—analytical precision, laser focus, and a relentless drive for perfection—can sometimes become obstacles when it comes to leading people.” A great technical mind isn’t all it takes to lead a team. We have to approach things with “just as much attention to emotional intelligence, or #EQ. Research by Daniel Goleman shows that emotional intelligence accounts for nearly 90% of the difference between star performers and average performers in leadership roles.” In other words, you have to be a well rounded person. You have to build up your soft skills alongside hard skills and pay close attention to the people you’re lucky enough to lead. #Leadership #Management #EI
