It's almost 2025, and tens-of-thousands of people across the country spend their time copying clinical information off of one screen onto web portals so that it can be used for clinical quality measures. Much of the data coming out of EMRs is still unusable for clinical quality. And it takes armies to shepherd files around, aggregate and validate them, and audit the results. Kudos to the policymakers, tech vendors, health plans, and provider groups striving to modernize and streamline the clinical quality data flows. For this year's symplr Compass Survey, we collected data from 280+ clinical, operational, and IT decision-makers at top U.S. #HealthSystems for our most comprehensive #healthcare research yet. I talk a lot about the labor crisis in healthcare, and our research was illuminating. 85% of clinicians and the majority of respondents in all three functional areas (53%) waste more than an hour each day on administrative tasks that could be significantly reduced or eliminated using software. AI technologies are supercharging the productivity of the U.S. clinical and administrative labor force, a 2T labor segment. LI members explored strategic opportunities with Hemant Taneja and Tanay Tandon who founded/lead Commure, an integrating platform offering a suite of automation services including RCM, ambient clinical copilots, RPM, sensors and operations. Of the $180B spent on RCM and workflows, Commure believes this entire segment should be replaced with $25B-50B in software +ops. I've worked for many clients who used only a fraction of their EMRs capabilities often because they were not aware of them and didn't know the right questions to ask to pull that knowledge from the EMRs customer success teams. having a trusted partner that understands your processes and can help align clinical and back office operations with data, reporting and increasing AI applications is critical to leverage such toolsets properly. Leaders should not consider these tools plug and play. maybe one day...
