A case study from Haas School of Business someone sent me ...got me intrigued by the idea of technological advancements in marketing. Though what I am sharing is what I felt reading that and related blogs and not directly related to that case... its fun to see future (no one charges for visualising😉) ....Especially, use of #medical #testing and #imaging techs into marketing conclusions. Though in use, it's fascinating for in future how #EEG, #fMRI, #GSR, and other #Neuro tools, when integrated with #AI, can revolutionize how we engage with #doctors and #consumers. Here is my learning from that case and some additional blog reading. Few companies who already using/used are Frito-Lay, Hyundai, PayPal, Coca-Cola, Google, Volkswagen, Procter & Gamble, Amazon, Microsoft #pharma #pharmaceuticals #branding....

I formed CNTRL Ventures to lead a round into Aanika… While pitching VCs on Aanika Biosciences, Inc. over this past fall, we started gaining incredible traction with customers who essentially control the global ag system. Just massive companies coming to us because of we have a proprietary tech that allows to write risk in new ways. So much so, that at one point when I was laying out our value proposition to a potential investor I thought: “Holy $#it, this is going to be massive…and it’s working”. I think pitch decks are total BS. I think companies need to CHEAPLY try a bunch of things to figure out what works and then go all in. When VCs debate market size it’s silly - everything is so non-linear you just can’t predict. You need to find crazy asymmetric opportunities. All this to say, I RE-sold myself hard on Aanika. We have guys on our cap table that have built multiple Billion dollar + startups in the ag space and exited, and very smart people who manage tens of billions in AUM across sectors. EVERY silicon valley VC we spoke to had nowhere near the domain expertise we have and therefore would just be a check and some good branding. Given that and the fact and that Aanika could be profitable next year, I had to change the plan. And thats why I formed Cntrl Ventures.. We are leading a round in Aanika becsuse I see massive upside Maybe at some point down (very very down) the road we’d invest in other companies and if we did there are a few ways I’d run it: 1. We’d be very controlling over the companies we invested in, like incredibly controlling and force commercializing their idea from day one.Id run it more like a prop trading firm where we allocate resources to highly talented people rather waste everyone’s time on pitch decks and “narratives”. 2. we would never ghost anyone. Just say you think the idea sucks but be direct about it. Hedge fund people much better in this respect because a one word email like “pass” says eveything. 3. Id never utter the words “be helpful”. It makes me want to 🤮. 4. No saving the world BS. You can’t make the world a better place if you never bring your thing to market. To do that is requires getting your hand dirty not networking. 5. Being seriously imbalanced would probably also be a requisite.

Stuff needs to play out in the clinic." Ron Leuty takes an in-depth look at Profluent and how #AI has become a force in drug development (biologics & small molecule). We are seeing this play out in applications to the QB3 mentoring program. It is striking how many new companies are touting that their use of AI/ML provides a competitive advantage. It's almost more remarkable if a drug discovery company is NOT using AI. And it is very hard to judge the longer-term commercial prospects of a new company whose approach relies on AI/ML. Obviously the quality of the data the models are using is paramount. 📚 I recently finished "The Song of the Cell" by Siddhartha Mukherjee. If you've ever wondered how our bodies actually work at their most basic level, this book breaks it down in a way that actually makes sense. What I appreciated most was how Mukherjee connects the dots between scientific history and modern medicine. He takes us from the first time anyone saw a cell to today's remarkable cancer treatments that work by reprogramming our own cells. Three main aspects that I took from this book: - We're made up of 37 trillion cells, each with its own job - it's mind-boggling how they all work together - Understanding cells helps explain so many different things: why we age and how we heal - Many new medical treatments are now focusing on fixing specific types of cells rather than treating symptoms The book can get technical at times, but Mukherjee has a way of explaining complex ideas using everyday examples that stick with you. This was to describe an idea from Steve Jobs about industrial design of Apple's products like mac, iphone, ipod, etc. I think it can be applied to any products including drug products. You have to really understand what you are dealing with, 'go really deep', then you realize what is important, what is not, what is essential, what is not, what can be control, what is hard to control. At our time, some technologies are more mature, others are not. The maturity doesn't necessarily guarantee control. I would rather use a simple system that I can fully understand its pros and cons, than something I can barely predict the outcome. Eventually, this is about our confidence in the product, and that will be its quality. I want to bring the best quality of the product to our customers, especially when it's about our life. " Jobs aimed for the simplicity that comes from conquering, rather than merely ignoring, complexity. Achieving this depth of simplicity, he realized, would produce a machine that felt as if it deferred to users in a friendly way, rather than challenging them. “It takes a lot of hard work,” he said, “to make something simple, to truly understand the underlying challenges and come up with elegant solutions.”. In Jony Ive, Apple’s industrial designer, Jobs met his soul mate in the quest for deep rather than superficial simplicity. They knew that simplicity is not merely a minimalist style or the removal of clutter.
