Case: How to Assemble a Unity Development Team, or Networking Rules!  Part 2 🔥 The candidate selected for Lead Unity Developer role in the previous part successfully passed the probation period, and shortly after, the client once again returned to us for help with a new Unity developer, as it was time to expand the team. This time, we needed to find a strong middle developer with experience working in a team of developers (not just a solo player), who would be ready to quickly integrate into the work and pace of the startup. Let's not forget the key requirement for soft skills. Strategy: We decided to start specifically with publications on job sites, game dev channels, and Unity-specific channels in our favorite Telegram. The job description and project were very appealing (as any description our team works on 🤩 ). Needless to say, the number of responses exceeded a hundred within the first few days? In the end, there were many more, with quite a few responses coming in long after the vacancy was closed :) Fortunately, we are very experienced in high-speed filtering of a large stream of candidates (by the way, we have/will have a separate case on this). We interviewed 15 great candidates within a week, 9 of whom reached the founder's review, and 6 made it to the final interview with him. 🌐 Networking played a role again – the recruiter happened to get a lead on a candidate who wasn't actively looking but decided to try himself after reviewing the job description. The first pool of excellent candidates was gathered quickly, and he was the last in it. The founder was determined to close the vacancy quickly. And so it happened. Guess who got an offer an hour after the final interview? We managed to do it exactly in 2 weeks and 1 day – from receiving the request to the candidate accepting the offer. Impressive? Important! No favoritism was involved in this case! We just want to emphasize how great it is to have a large, active, and responsive network and how cool it can accelerate closures! Do you agree? How we scaled from 12 to 85 developers in 3 months. Client Project: Merge3 game. KPIs: We did better than expected. They wanted 160 days of content ASAP. We grew from 12 ➜ 45 ➜ 85 developers. Without losing quality, we delivered. Many thanks to Olga Zagorskaia, our partner's Head of Project Management. She has taught us a great deal and helped streamline processes during our scaling phase. Here are 5 key lessons I learned: 1) Process and structure are key for fast growrth - Grew to 45 developers through internal reallocation, and an additional 40 people were added to the structure by our partners. Built a synergy of individuals from different companies to function as one cohesive mechanism. - Only possible with structured communication. 2) Clear roles make decisions easaier. - Gave team members specific features to own. - Made a hierarchy with leads and sub-leads. 3) Effective tools and regular reviews maintain quality. - Completely redesigned our business processes to make them simpler but structured, transparent and introduced new review checkpoints. - Implemented new collaborative tools to streamline communication (Figma, Miro, Coda). 4) Adapt Reviews as you grow. - Held project team and lead calls twice a week. - Held art review calls three times a week. 5) Review and Improve often. - Held big retros after each milestone. - Used team feedback to get better. Continuous improvement is key to success. This project was a huge moment for us. It showed us what was possible. Moving internal developers? Working with partner studios? Recently, I've been involved in developing a metaverse for Technology Reply Romania. We designed the 3D environment with careful consideration for polygon count and material optimization, ensuring a smooth experience for users exploring the virtual office. During this project, I utilized 3ds Max for modeling, Substance Painter for materials and had the chance to explore Frame VR which serves as the tool enabling the integration of this metaverse on the web. I also found Blender to be incredibly useful, as it works well with FrameVR. #metaverse #framevr #3denvironment

Serbian Games Association has released a new report for 2023. What's particularly pleasing is that the industry is growing! Here are some highlights: - Total revenue exceeds 175 million euros; 150 in 2022 - The number of employees has doubled - from 1700 to 3400 - One of the reasons for the increase in the number of employees is a large number of gaming professionals and their families from Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus moved to Serbia last year - The number of studios, however, has not increased significantly - from 140 in 2022 to 150 in 2023 Link to the full report in the comments. #SGA #GameDevIndustry #Games #Gaming #GamesReport

👨‍🚀 One of the most challenging aspects of indie game development is building and keeping a team together. I wish I had enough programming skills to assist our lead programmer more effectively. However, it's not possible to manage everything, so I've concentrated on marketing, game design, and graphics, while our programmers focus on their tasks. Hello, Not having much luck just arbitrarily looking through job posting for game development/programming work, so I will try my first post here on Linkedin. I just graduated with a degree in Software Development and was looking for a programming job in the game industry. The problem is I am not sure where to start. All of us working with and for gamers know that gaming has a lot of benefits. We say that in every interview, in every meeting, at any event, but how to really make them count, to make them as truly benefits in our lives. #Score2Skill was a project that started more than one year ago with an idea that I embraced from the very beginning: what if we transform the gaming skills into job skills that eventually the gamers can use in their CVs. It took us several meetings, focus groups and interviews with gamers of all kinds (casual, pro, influencers) to come up with the final algorithm.
