Very insightful article shedding light on the interplay between SVOD and FAST services. Some consumers are shifting from subscriptions to FAST platforms, while others are finding new programs and subscribing to services. The hope is for both types of services to become more complimentary in the future. Great read!

DIRECTV’s decision to abandon its acquisition of DISH Network due to bondholder opposition underscores a critical point: the pay-TV landscape is continuing to fragment as streaming takes center stage. The proposed merger, which would have created the largest U.S. pay-TV provider with 19 million subscribers, was seen as a way to consolidate a shrinking industry plagued by cord-cutting. But even $1 billion in potential cost synergies couldn’t overcome financial roadblocks. In a world dominated by Streaming TV, the failure of this deal reflects the increasing difficulty for legacy TV providers to adapt. Consumers demand flexibility, choice, and personalization—values that streaming platforms deliver natively. As cord-cutting accelerates, the focus shifts to innovation, aggregation, and delivering content where audiences are—streaming, not satellites. The implications are clear: the winners in this shifting landscape will be those who understand streaming is no longer a side business, but THE business.

The Trade Desk announced the launch of Ventura, their new streaming TV operating system. It is an ambitious move that highlights the company’s efforts to deepen its influence in the CTV space. However, scaling Ventura to compete with established players like Roku, Google, and Amazon will be a monumental challenge. These competitors already have massive user bases, mature ecosystems, and strong consumer trust, whereas Ventura would need to build its ecosystem from scratch. The information presented in this article is quite strange, and is almost identical to all the other sources. They take time to stress that this is a multi-year contract renewal but at no time in this and other articles from other sources does anyone mention what 'multi-year' actually is - after all it can be anything from 2 years to whatever number. It used to be the case that transponder space was negotiated to be as long as possible, within the limits of cost, so as to ensure that space was always going to be available and the best price, but recent deals between operators and satellite providers have actually been as low as two years as operators plan ahead to exit the Satellite space in preference to moving to IP delivery (contribution or distribution). Is this happening here? That WBD actually has signed for the minimum 'multi-year' deal (2 years) but the source of the information as SES is pushing the mantra of 'multi-year' implication as a positive for its shareholders?
