As many teachers do, I had a healthy dose of identity confusion when I left my classroom: "Am I really not a teacher anymore?" Well, I'm not a teacher in a traditional sense, and the past few years have clarified that for me. My "subjects" are less singular (e.g., organizational development, DEI). My "classroom" is now made up of workplaces across various industries. My "students" are a bit older, but with their own inner children. My "curriculum" remains people-centered and action-oriented. And all things considered, "I" am still a "teacher." My consulting practice has evolved into "Elynndí" to better capture this fact: that our identities as teachers depend less on 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 we operate, and more on 𝘩𝘰𝘸. After all, a teacher's skill set has been crucially central to what makes my approach to this work unique—work I am excited to continue doing. :) #Teaching #Pedagogy #LearningAndDevelopment #WhoAmI #DudeDontStressAboutIt #OhOkayThanks

Enterprise L&D: If your L&D function is simply building/buying and pushing content versus helping to solve targeted challenges, the Critical Business Issues, as Rummler called them, your L&D Leadership needs to self-assess what they are doing versus what they should be doing.

Enterprise L&D: If your L&D’s Practice with Feedback isn’t authentic enough it is unlikely to TRANSFER and have IMPACT. And if you don’t have Practice with Feedback your Learning is Communications, or Education at best.

So, I stumbled upon this gem of an article recently (images below) that asserts our purpose in #HR is to "form friendships" at work and therefore we are "better off" donning our party hats and confetti cannons than being "ground into the vortex" of HR work.   Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ve always dreamed of orchestrating office karaoke showdowns and ensuring the breakroom donuts have appropriate variety.   Afterall, that not only creates REAL connections at work but is also a driver to genuine #culture and #employeeengagement, right?   Who needs data driven decisions when we could instead be blowing up balloons!🎈   Career growth and workforce plans? Nah, host a dance party instead! 💃🕺   Why spend time on creating a talent brand and value proposition when instead we can host the office talent show! 🎊   Strategic compensation and retention planning? Shelve that in favor of coordinating a pickleball tournament! 🎾   Talent development and engagement? Why waste your time when there's an office snack bar to stock! 🍓   The actual examples in the article include - an office choir and a weekly BBQ.   (Thanks to Brice Johnson for sending the article to me - yes this article is real, yes it was published in a legitimate periodical, and yes it was written in 2024 ... and yes connections and intentional culture curation are important but we are certainly not "better off" planning choirs and BBQs, especially since there are more genuine ways to create connections)

Enterprise L&D: Until AI can do Instructional Analysis accurately, completely & appropriately "enough" - Human Analysts will have to feed their AI Systems to address the (perhaps) unique Outputs & Processes of their Enterprise beyond generic content w/ (perhaps) Face Validity.

Couldn’t agree more, STRATEGY is so often ignored by those supposedly responsible for L&D or indeed HR, Talent, Performance (choose your own version). I have often asked the question, “can I see the L&D (or equivalent) Strategy (or even plan)” only to be met with a dumbfounded look! This is not a tar brush response to everyone, everywhere but if the cap fits, you’ve gotta kind of wear it! The lack of any kind of alignment to the business strategy/plan and just lumping everything into an LMS and hoping they will come and devours is not only misguided, ill informed and completely mindless, it is a dereliction of duty to those who need the learning at the point of need (in the workflow) so they can just get on with their jobs. Planning for this kind of approach requires intelligence, intellect, and inspiration, most of which is lacking in modern day L&D. Oh yes and AI is not the answer!!!
