Volunteer in Yerevan, Armenia
United Nations Volunteers
Education
I assisted in organizing, participating and at times translating in meetings and forums with NGO's of Armenia, government officials and the media to discuss this unique word; volunteer. What I came to learn is that the spirit of helping a neighbor is very strong in Armenia, possibly stronger than in the U.S., but volunteering for the sake of volunteering was not understood.

It was interesting trying to explain why volunteerism is important, especially for a developing country, especially as a volunteer myself. In researching volunteerism in Armenia at the UN, I came to understand that the concept was still very new and foreign.
The younger generation is changing the mindset, especially because they are able to travel to other countries to study and are interacting with so many new and exciting people through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. -
Volunteer in Yerevan, Armenia
International Center for Human Development
This experience was intellectually stimulating. I had the opportunity to research Armenian policies on various issues and compare them with policies in other post-Soviet countries. My task was to also research on Armenians in Central and South America, specifically Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

Exploring the Relationship Between Everyday Risk and Urban Development in Chuquitanta
University College London, Development Planning Unit
Chuquitanta, in the north of Lima, has experienced important changes over its 4,000 years of inhabited history. However, the most significant ones have occurred since the 1940s with Lima’s expansion, which included both people from Lima and migrants from the Andean region. Economic activity has increased substantially, and today, the Chillón River and the basin’s channels are severely polluted, due mainly to poor planning and a lack of enforcement of laws and regulations.
